Former Beatles Reunite

With the deaths or John Lennon and George Harrison, the possibility of a true Beatles reunion is impossible. So, what is the next best thing? How about the remaining two members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr appearing on stage together? That is exactly what happened Saturday night at Radio City Music Hall. The two former Beatles appeared on stage together for the first time in six years to raise money for the David Lynch Foundation’s Change Begins Within Benefit concert. The David Lynch Foundation offers funding for students to learn transcendental meditation. The before and after programs of the foundation … Continue reading

Glen Campbell Sings Green Day

That’s right, you read the blog titled correctly, country superstar Glen Campbell is taking on contemporary music and that includes Green Day. It’s not that he is the first country star to try this. Willie Nelson has recorded Fleetwood Mac and Grateful Dead songs in the past. Even legend Johnny Cash began dabbling in different genres of music before his death when he recorded the Nine Inch Nails’ song “Hurt.” And, although not country, who can forget Pat Boone’s cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” Tom Jones doing Prince’s “Kiss,” or Paul Anka singing Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without a Face.” In … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Joan, Jennie and John

JOAN COLLINS It’s hard to believe, but Joan Collins still has men fighting over her. I’m not kidding. According to reports, the 74-year-old former “Dynasty” star recently sparked a bidding war between two affluent businessmen who were trying to win a date with her. The British newspaper the Daily Telegraph is reporting that a pair of rich guys became locked in a bidding battle as the actress stood by and watched at the Caudwell Children Legends Ball in London last week. A dinner date with Collins was one of the items being auctioned for charity. But no one could have … Continue reading

Greatest Musical Feuds Ever – Part 1

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just all get along? Nah, what fun would that be? Here is a list of the best band squabbles ever. Some are between two bands and one is even innerbanditary (yes, I just made up that word), but all were played out in the public eye: Lynyrd Skynrd vs. Neil Young I guess Neil Young started this one. He wrote the song “Southern Man,” which contained lyrics that talked about crosses burning and paying back slaves for all the years of injustice done to them. Lynyrd Skynrd, a band almost synonymous with Southern … Continue reading

Yoko to Heather – “Try to Survive”

I recently blogged about Heather Mills and her recent divorce from Paul McCartney. After a bitter break up, the two finally settled on a financial amount – $48.6 million. While that does sound like a lot of money, it was nothing compared to the $1.6 billion he is estimated to be worth. She had to know that going up against the cutest Beatle would be an uphill battle. I mean, who doesn’t love Paul McCartney? I am not even a Beatles fan and he is my favorite Beatle! Therefore, no matter what went on in the marriage, he had the … Continue reading

John Lennon’s One-Of-A-Kind Birthday Present

Ten days from now one of John Lennon’s dreams will finally come true. On what would have been the legendary singer’s 67th birthday, his wife, Yoko Ono will unveil the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland. Ono said the monument is something that she and Lennon spoke about at length more than 40 years ago and now, finally, their dream is coming to fruition. The Imagine Peace Tower is a light sculpture that will beam light from a wishing well bearing the words “imagine peace” in 24 languages. The tower’s light will glow each year from October 9th to December … Continue reading

Oh No, We Won Best New Artist – Part 2

In my last blog, I talked about artists who won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist then didn’t quite live up to the hype. But, the VMA has only been around since 1984. If you really want to talk about the kiss of death award for an artist or band, let’s talk about the Best New Artist Grammy Award. As far as the Grammys go, the Best New Artist (BNA) award has been around since 1960. And there have been some acts that have truly lived up to the title. A little group named the Beatles won … Continue reading

“Tomorrow” Host Tom Snyder Dies

When I was growing up, I loved to watch “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.” But, if you really wanted to watch something edgy, you tuned into “The Tomorrow Show” with Tom Snyder. Snyder, a last night television pioneer, died yesterday from complications due to leukemia. He was 71 years old. Snyder hosted “The Tomorrow Show” from 1973 until 1981. He was known for his casual interview style (he smoking during most of his show – something that would be unheard of nowadays) and his hearty laugh as well as his provocative guests and subject matters. He had many memorable … Continue reading

Yoko Speaks About the Night John Lennon Died

For many people, it was one of the moments you will never forget – exactly where you were when you heard that John Lennon had been shot and killed. For those of you born after 1980, you may not understand the full impact of his death. John Lennon was a pop culture icon. It started in the early 60’s and followed right up to his death on December 8, 1980. He was a beloved singer/songwriter for the Beatles. He and Paul McCartney co-wrote many of the hits, but John was singularly responsible such favorites as “Norwegian Wood,” “In My Life,” … Continue reading
