Who is Annie Leibovitz?

With all the brouhaha about the Miley Cyrus photos in Vanity Fair, some of you may just be wondering who is Annie Leibovitz anyway. Annie is a celebrated photographer who is known for her close collaboration with her photography subjects. Annie became interested in the arts in high school and attended San Francisco Art Institute after graduation. She became interested in photography after her family took a trip to Japan and developed her skills while working various jobs. In 1970, she started working at Rolling Stone. By 1973, publisher Jann Wenner had named her the chief photographer. On December 8, … Continue reading

Who is Your Inspiration?

Ansel Adams has long been an inspiration to me. Despite six moves in less than a decade, three of my favorite Adams’ black-and-white photos taken at California’s Yosemite Valley remain unscathed. I protected those pictures like they were the Queen’s jewels. While I don’t get many chances to experiment with natural landscape photography as much Adams did, I still try to incorporate his techniques in my everyday shooting. El Capitan, Sunrise, Moonrise over Hernandez, Winter Sunrise, and Clearing Winter Storm are some of Adams’ most popular prints. The guy was a master at what he did. What’s more, he shot … Continue reading

Studdard and fiancé Surata Zuri McCants showed up at the Shelby County Probate Office in Birmingham yesterday and received a marriage license, which is good for 30 days. An eyewitness said the pair looked “really happy.” So far, there has been no word on when the couple plans to marry. When Two Hit Wonders Attack – Part 3

Earlier this week, I was blogging about Two Hit Wonders – bands or artists that have two hits then disappear from the charts (usually not of their own choosing). Here are some more two hit wonders: Tone Loc – “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” Tone Loc’s 1989 album Loc-ed After Dark produced both “Wild Thing,” which went to #2 and “Funky Cold Medina,” which went to #3. The album itself went to #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. His follow-up, Cool Hand Loc, only reached #46 on the charts, but it was still certified gold. Tone Loc Update: Tone Loc … Continue reading

Marie Osmond—Her Lips are Flapping But is Anything Coming Out?

Here we go again… Apparently, there are very few stars in Hollywood who understand that there are benefits to remaining mum on certain topics. No, discretion is not a celebrity strong point and Marie Osmond is a perfect example. The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant has decided the world would be a better place if we all knew how she felt about the Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair picture brouhaha. Yesterday, Osmond went public blaming Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus for leaving his 15-year-old daughter alone during the photo shoot (F.Y.I. Miley’s grandmother and teacher remained with the teen when … Continue reading

Disney Girls Gone Wild?

One photograph can make or break a career. For the young (15-year-old) millionaire superstar, Miley Cyrus, there has been one heck of a hullabaloo over a photo taken by the legendary photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Certainly it would be an honor to be photographed by Leibovitz. She’s snapped some of popular culture’s most historic photos. (She took the photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in bed, among others.) The fuss is over a topless photo of the 15-year-old who is wrapped in a satin sheet. The photo is in the June issue of Vanity Fair. Her body is covered more … Continue reading

Oh My… Miley! G-Rated Star Appears in PG-13 Photos

So, by now I’m sure you are well aware of the whole Miley Cyrus provocative photo brouhaha. For those of you who have been blissfully living in a media-free world allow me to give you an update: The 15-year-old squeaky-clean Disney star might want to stay away from digital cameras for a while. The teen is currently embroiled in two front-page controversies both of which involve racy pictures of her. Last week the singer-actress went on the defensive when “playfully provocative” photos of her posing on her ex-boyfriend’s lap showed up on the Internet. (Cyrus called them “silly.”) In one … Continue reading

Celebs’ New Gigs—-Anne’s an Ambassador and Suri’s a Polar Bear?

Frankly, I am surprised that it took so long for a cosmetics company to hire Anne Hathaway. Even before she made a name for herself in “The Devil Wears Prada” I always thought she had one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood. Her skin is flawless (at least it appears to be in the shots I’ve seen) and her smile is infectious. She just has a fresh look about her. Now it appears execs at Lancome are giving the actress the recognition she deserves. Following in the footsteps of the company’s past famous faces, Kate Winslet and Clive Owen, … Continue reading

Disney + Celebrities = Hot New Ads

Who can send a pop princess to Wonderland, a soccer star to slay a dragon, and an award-winning actress down a magical staircase? Disney, of course. With a little help from celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, various Hollywood stars dressed up as classic Disney characters for a one-of-a-kind photo shoot to promote Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Year of a Million Dreams campaign. In a recent interview with the media, Leibovitz admitted it didn’t take much to coax her famous friends to transform into Disney characters, including Cinderella, Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan. According to Leibovitz, Scarlett … Continue reading
