Warren Boyd - The Real Cleaner

Have you seen the new A&E show "The Cleaner?" It features Benjamin Bratt as a former addict who now uses extreme measures to help other addicts get clean. If you've seen the show, you may not know that Benjamin's character, William Banks, is based on a real person.

Warren Boyd was raised in sunny Santa Rosa, California, but by the age of 32, he had seen his share of trouble. He had nine DUI convictions and had already spent five years in prison. Addicted to both alcohol and cocaine, Boyd had been in and out of 26 rehab programs without any success. In 1990, he was due back in jail, but something was about to happen in Boyd's life that would finally make him want to go clean. His then-girlfriend Deedee gave birth to the couple's first child right before Boyd returned to prison. He said "Up until that moment, no one could talk any sense into me. But when the nurse placed her in my arms, I knew it was all over."

Boyd spent the next 15 months is prison, but he began attending 12-step meetings and got clean. Once he was released from prison, he decided to devote his life to helping others break the terrible cycle of addiction. But, Boyd knew that sometimes addiction intervention calls for extreme actions. Just like on the show, Boyd and his team (all former addicts themselves) often rescue addicts through physical intervention. In doing this, the team risks being shot at or beaten, but they know how important it is to get the addict the help he or she needs.

Twenty years later, Boyd and Deedee are now married with three children. He runs private rehab centers, but also has helped individual celebrities. While he won't say who he has helped, rumors are that he helped Robert Downey Jr., Courtney Love, and Whitney Houston - three of the worse celebrity cases of addition. Boyd also serves as the co-executive producer of "The Cleaner," the show his real life dedication inspired.

I love this man, I love the show!!! I am a grateful recovering addict myself and the show and what he does really touches my heart. I attend meetings on a regular basis and sometimes i feel like it's just not enough...I want to be a cleaner or at least part of the crew!!!!!

I do not know much about blogging if anything or tag but I do need information concerning william boyd and help for someone I know, the way he did his intervention is probably the only way this person can get the help he needs. Family members are being drained who are 85 and 76, any info would help

I've tried to look up a way to contact Warren and the only thing I can find is maybe going to http://www.aande.com and contacting them. I would imagine since the show has started airing, he may be busy with people needing help.

OMG!!! I so love this show!!!! I currently am attending courses to become a counselor for drug and alcohol addcited teens. Living a past life, that used to bring shame, now brings me HOPE (which is what I named my daughter). I was one of the worst case scenarios, but today I strive daily to be like Mr. Boyd, it would be awesome to set up something like he is doing here in my state. This is the only show I watch religously. I hope this show keeps airing, because it does give active addicts the knowledge that there is help there and knowing that others do recover is a great help to. Thank you Warren, you give me inspiration.

I just want to say how much I love this show and I think we need to look at getting something like this started in my hometown of Greenwood, SC. I am a recovering meth addict (sober 20 years) and have had many family members addicted to many different drugs. Half of our town is addicted to something. You are doing an awesome job and I live the show. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I'm a recovering alcoholic, in nursing school and studying to be a LPN. I watched "The Cleaner" and absolutely love the show. More than that, I can appreciate Warren Boyd.

Part of what drew me to nursing is my desire to help other alcoholics.

I am known as Nehru...I am a grateful recovering addict who celebrated 9 years clean in April.

I am very thankful for people like Warren and countless others who understand that addiction is a monster that cannot be defeated alone.

I would love to be apart of the show (I have a film degree but am now pursuing my BA in Psychology)...but living clean one day at a time is living proof that "once an addict, always an addict" is no longer true...and I am living proof that "an addict, ANY addict, can lose the desire to use and find a new way to live"!

I am a grateful recovering addict about to celebrate and anniversary (God-willing) on 7/2. I can honestly say, watching The Cleaner, after many 24 hours of clean time, I have realized that my clean time is the most important because at any given time, this addict is just one "hit" away from losing it all. Thank you Mr. Boyd in bringing your story to light and providing hope for all addicts, even those that are still in denial.

Dear Readers,

I have tried to email various sources to find out where Mr. Boyd works or how to reach him. So far, all attempts have been unsuccessful. Sorry :-(

I am also a recoverying drug addict/alcoholic. I love the show but more importantly warren boyd is doing for people what I wanted so bad for someone to do for me. I am now trying to get into school to become a drug and alcohol counsler. I cant get any straight answers as to what I need to take in school or maybe a good school to go to. As far as I know all you need is an internship. I dont know. I do know that I want to help people and I am eager to get started any help from anyone as to what i need to do or what school or classes I need to take would be greatly appreciated. Dan

I love that show! I feel like I am living the early & worst years of his and Dee-Dee's life, and my name is Melissa too, although, it's not the actual wifes name, but, still. I just had a baby with Matt, we've been together for about 7 years now, and our son is 4 months old, and I am jobless, and but I had to do it, I couldn't deal with his anger and addiction anymore. I wish I, like everyone else had a way to reach Warren Boyd, so he could share his magic touch with Matt, we were childhood best friends, and we're 30 now, I really miss him and hate seeing him self destruct this way. He is missing out on so much with Phoenix and visa-versa. We all lose. So, you say you work at home, is that work and get paid at home or do you mean the job of being a house wife? If you get paid at home, please let me know how, I have searched so many work at home things, but none pan out. Thanks for listening, and for any info. Melissa.
