Update on Dennis Quaid's Sick Twins and Slain Pro Football Player's Celebrity Ties

It's been a little more than a week since the tragic news broke regarding Dennis Quaid's newborn twins becoming the innocent victims of a preventable hospital accident.

When I first blogged about Quaid's son Thomas Boone and daughter Zoe Grace having been administered a lethal dose of the blood thinner Heparin, there was no information given as to why the babies were in the hospital to begin with.

Both infants were born in good health via a surrogate mother earlier this month. Brother and sister were released a few days later, but only now is information being released as to why the babies were forced to return to the hospital less than two weeks after they were given the okay to head home.

According to Blake Buffington, the brother of Dennis Quaid's wife Kimberly, one of the twins had an infection near his belly button. Quaid and his wife then took their children back to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where doctors diagnosed the twins with a staph infection and admitted them to the hospital. That's when they were hooked up to IVs that were flushed with 1,000 times the correct dosage of Heparin.

According to Buffington, both babies remain in intensive care.

Kimberly Quaid's brother also revealed the horrific hospital incident is exacerbated by the fact that the Quaid's "went through hell" just to have the babies. Buffington says the twins' birth was "nothing short of a miracle" considering his sister had experienced five miscarriages and was later told she would not be able to conceive naturally. That's when the couple decided to use a gestational carrier.

In other heartbreaking news, as teammates continue to publicly eulogize Washington Redskins Pro-Bowl safety Sean Taylor, an A-list Hollywood star is breaking his silence about his relationship to the slain football star.

Andy Garcia paid tribute to the pro athlete last night less than 24 hours after Taylor was shot and killed inside his Florida home during an apparent break-in. The actor revealed that his niece, Jackie Garcia was Taylor's live-in girlfriend and the pair have an 18-month-old daughter together.

According to police reports, Jackie Garcia reportedly hid in the couple's bedroom with the baby while Taylor went to investigate strange noises he heard coming from another part of the house.

"His heroic action on that tragic night saved their life and is a testament to his humanity and courage," the Ocean's Thirteen star said in a statement to the Miami Herald.

"His spirit will live forever, in our hearts and through the legacy of his achievements and the family he leaves behind."

Jackie Garcia and Taylor were high-school sweethearts and attended the University of Miami together.

"Sean was known to many as an extraordinary athlete and unquestionable teammate,'' the 51-year-old actor added. "To those of us who had the good fortune to count him as a member of our extended family, we will always remember him as a caring and loving individual."

What a terrible tragedy. What a small world.

Unbelievable. The Quaids should own that hospital once the kids recover.
