TV Tidbits: Ready Your Remotes

by Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger

It's official... Denise Richards is making like Tori Spelling--she's getting her own reality TV show. I mentioned the brouhaha surrounding the actress' new series in a previous blog and wondered if the show would be picked up as a summer replacement. Sure enough the bigwigs at E! decided to give the show (which is being produced by Ryan Seacrest's company) the green light.

So let the eye rolling begin. Heck, if Hulk Hogan, Paula Abdul and the former Donna Martin can make it as reality TV stars, why shouldn't Richards give it a go?

According to the network, cameras will follow Richards as she "navigates Hollywood, romance and motherhood." Speaking of motherhood, the actress and single mom's series has already made its share of headlines thanks to her ex-husband Charlie Sheen who was furious that Richards planned to feature their daughters Sam, 3, and Lola, 2, on the show. Though, his attempts to get a judge to pull the plug on the actress' plans were shot down when Richards was granted permission by a court commissioner to include the girls in the show.

If the idea of seeing Denise Richards isn't enough to get you to reach for your remote (to turn the TV on) perhaps seeing some of Hollywood's biggest names will.

Now that the writers strike is officially over and the 80th Annual Academy Awards is scheduled to air next week as planned, show producers are only too happy to announce their all-star line-up.

Last year's Academy Award acting winners Helen Mirren, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson and Alan Arkin will all be put to work on Oscar night - as presenters. Add to that star-studded list Hollywood hotties George Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, Katherine Heigl and Miley Cyrus. Other A-list presenters (who, by the way, will be walking away with some major swag) include Cate Blanchett, Josh Brolin, Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Martin Scorsese, Hilary Swank, John Travolta, Denzel Washington and Renee Zellwegger.

In other Oscar news you can look forward to seeing live performances of the nominated Best Songs. Amy Adams will sing "Happy Working Song," while Kristin Chenoweth and Marlon Saunders will perform "That's How You Know," both from Enchanted - as is "So Close," which will be sung by Jon McLaughlin. Meanwhile, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova will sing "Falling Slowly," from Once, and Jamia Simone Nash and the IMPACT Repertory Theatre of Harlem, headed by Jamal Joseph, will do "Raise It Up," from August Rush.
