Kung Fu Panda Coming to the Small Screen and Leno Preps to Say Good Bye

Go Po! “Kung Fu Panda” fans (and their parents) have reason to celebrate today. Nickelodeon is adding the high-flying, black-and-white bear to its afternoon line-up. The kids’ cable channel just announced that it plans to premiere “Kung Fu Panda: The Series” later this year. The show will be based on Po, the frisky martial arts panda, who starred in the hit 2008 animated film, “Kung Fu Panda.” Nickelodeon execs say the series’ 26 episodes will be animated in the same computer-generated process as the big-screen version. The decision to offer Po his own show was made following the success of … Continue reading

Regis Returning to “Millionaire”

It’s a blast from the not-so distant past… ABC is reviving “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” this summer, and they got Regis Philbin to come back as host. It’s been nearly a decade since the TV game show became a smash hit, and Reege debuted his famous monochromatic ensembles, and now both are set to return to the small screen. According to ABC execs, “Millionaire” will return as an 11-night event, beginning August 9th and concluding August 23rd. The popular quiz show premiered in the U.S. during the summer of 1999, and it didn’t take long before couch potatoes … Continue reading

TV Stars Returning to the Small Screen

Michael J. Fox and Katie Holmes are retuning to their roots—the good ol’ boob tube. Producers of FX’s “Rescue Me,” say Fox will make his return to series TV with a four-episode guest role on the popular drama. But don’t expect the 47-year-old actor to be running around like his former “Family Ties” and “Spin City” characters. Show producers say on “Rescue Me,” Fox will play a wheelchair bound “very funny, very original character.” Fox’s character is the new boyfriend of Denis Leary’s character Tommy’s estranged wife Janet (Andrea Roth) and will be introduced in the fifth-season premiere next spring. … Continue reading

They’re Baaack! Old Favorites Returning to Primetime

Who knew a single zip code could help pay the bills for so many unemployed actors? CW’s new version of the classic teen hit “Beverly Hills, 90210,” is turning out to be quite a savior for some otherwise washed up primetime stars. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, who both appeared on the original show, have signed on to resurrect their characters of Kelly Taylor (who has grown up and become a high school guidance counselor at her alma mater West Beverly High School) and Donna Martin respectively. Now word has it that Joe E. Tata, a.k.a. Peach Pit owner Nat … Continue reading

Katie Holmes Dances and LeAnn Rimes Separates

Did you catch Katie Holmes on “So You Think You Can Dance” last night? I did, or should I say I watched the first 30 seconds or so, got bored, and fast forwarded through to the results (thank you DVR!). It wasn’t that she was bad, but as Robert Thompson, the director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture put it, Katie did “a competent job.” He did, however, point out that most of the “real movement” was done by “real dancers.” I mean, I know Katie is or was on Broadway, but she was just okay for … Continue reading

Turn Off to Turn On

Today as we were coming home from the markets I asked Mick if he had any ideas he thought would be good for this blog. ‘Turn off the TV,’ he said. Now don’t misunderstand, neither of us is against TV. We have our favorite shows. At the moment, when it’s non rating period in Australia, we’re watching Eli Stone which is not compelling but quirky enough to be interesting. Plus we both like lawyer shows. But most nights our TV is off and we spend time together, talking, playing games and listening to music. Settlers of Catan is our favorite … Continue reading

Star Gigs—Inmates Running the Asylum

Anyone who tunes into the 2008 Miss Universe pageant next month has got to wonder who was in charge of casting. The beauty competition is set to air on NBC July 13th and when it does two of the most unlikely people in Hollywood will be presiding over it. Pageant organizers just announced that Jerry Springer and Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Mel B of the Spice Girls) will co-host the annual pretty girl fest. What? Let me see if I’ve got this right… you have a show that is taking place in Nha Trang, Vietnam and being beamed around the world … Continue reading

Getting Axed in Hollywood—-Lindsay, Anne, and “The Sopranos”

So much for getting into the mind of a menace… At this point the role wouldn’t be a stretch for derailed actress Lindsay Lohan, but alas, studio bosses thought the risk for them would be far too significant. According to reports, Lohan has been axed as the star of an upcoming biopic of murderer Charles Manson. The repeat rehabber had signed on to play Nancy Pittman – a member of Manson’s “family” – in the independent film “Manson Girls.” That was more than a month ago. Now, reports say Lohan’s contract has been cancelled because studio big wigs fear the … Continue reading

Late Night Talk Show Hosts Talk Return and “Sex and the City” Girls Talk Trilogy

Are you sick of Leno, Letterman, and O’Brien reruns yet? Well, here’s some good news–it appears the late-night talk show hosts could soon be returning with fresh laughs. According to Variety, four major late night hosts (Leno, Letterman, O’Brien and Craig Ferguson) are considering a return despite the ongoing Hollywood writer’s strike. No surprise, ratings for the late-night talk shows (which have been airing reruns since the mass work stoppage began two months ago) have taken a nosedive and network execs want the hosts to get back on the air ASAP. But who will be first to cross the line? … Continue reading
