Top Ten Weirdest Date Mates

Let's face facts: Hollywood is a land all unto itself. What might appear just downright strange in your town can almost seem normal in Hollywood. This theory of thought extends to dating. Often, two unlikely celebrities hook up and we never even bat an eyelash. But then, there are the couples that just make you go - "What?" Here's my top ten weirdest Hollywood couples ever:

10. Melissa Gilbert and Rob Lowe

Okay, maybe this one isn't too weird - that is why I listed it as #10. But, when they dated back in 1982, Melissa was still primarily known as innocent Laura Ingalls from "Little House on the Prairie" and Rob was a rowdy Brat Packer, who was soon to be known for his infamous video. These two dated for five years before calling it quits.

9. Brooke Shields and George Michael

Think this is a weird match? I know from watching a VH1 documentary that George struggled with his sexuality early in his career, so I am assuming this was during his struggle. Notice I didn't even mention when she dated Michael Jackson. She did redeem herself however when she went out with Dean Cain and Liam Neeson.

8. Lara Flynn Boyle and David Spade

This was just a strange match. I love David, he is so funny. But Lara is just a little stick figure and the two didn't seem like a good match. I guess she didn't think so either because the two broke up after she was involved in a car wreck with Jack Nicholson - oops!

7. Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra

This one had disaster written all over it. They married in Vegas while at least one of them (Rodman) was inebriated. And in my personal opinion, you should avoid marrying anyone with the nickname "The Worm." This one only lasted about five months.

6. Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers

Another odd pair, Cruise and Rogers were married for almost three years. After the divorce, Rogers came out saying that Cruise was thinking of becoming a monk and "He thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument, but my instrument needed tuning, and we had to split."

5. Julie Roberts and Lyle Lovett

I like Julia Roberts. I like Lyle Lovett. But stand them side by side and they just seem like a mismatch! Most of the country was shocked by this pair's quickly wedding, but not so much by their divorce less than two years later.

4. Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg

Yes, they are both very funny and talented people. But this unlikely couple couldn't survive Ted's appearance in blackface at Whoopi's Friars Club roast. And she wrote his material that night!

3. Andre Agassi and Barbra Streisand

She appeared at his matches during the 1992 U.S. Open, but there seemed to be too large an age gap with this couple (28 years). No hard feelings after the breakup though, as Babs attended Andre's 2005 Grand Slam for Children benefit.

2. Brad Pitt and Robin Givens

In case you don't remember, Brad and Robin dated briefly in 1989 after Robin had left Mike Tyson and before Brad dated Juliette Lewis.

1. Edward Norton and Courtney Love

Oh, this one really hurt. What could Yale educated Norton have in common with Hard Knocks University graduate Love? I have NO idea. He's low key, she's loud and brassy. He's anti-drug and anti-smoking, she smokes and has been arrested for possession of cocaine. The two met on the set of The People vs. Larry Flynt and were a true example of "opposites attract" - they dated for close to three years.

Edward Norton is SO underrated as an actor. He's awesome! How on earth could he waste 3 years with Courtney Love? Was it for the headlines?

I know Lisa - I feel the same way! I just bought The Illusionist DVD but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I was an immediate fan after seeing him in Primal Fear - his first film! At least he was with Courtney in her "cleaned up" phase - LOL!

Poor Tom. He should just admit it and be done with it. lol
