Top Ten Weirdest Date Mates

Let’s face facts: Hollywood is a land all unto itself. What might appear just downright strange in your town can almost seem normal in Hollywood. This theory of thought extends to dating. Often, two unlikely celebrities hook up and we never even bat an eyelash. But then, there are the couples that just make you go – “What?” Here’s my top ten weirdest Hollywood couples ever: 10. Melissa Gilbert and Rob Lowe Okay, maybe this one isn’t too weird – that is why I listed it as #10. But, when they dated back in 1982, Melissa was still primarily known … Continue reading

Jack Nicholson Turns 75

There’s nothing like a celebrity’s milestone birthday to make you feel old. Take Jack Nicholson for example. I read that Jack Nicholson turned 75-years-old yesterday. What? That just can’t be! Seventy-five is the age of grandparents – my grandparents – so there’s no way Nicholson can be that old. Then, I realize that my grandparents – all of whom were older than 75 – actually died 20-plus years ago and I am now the age that I think Nicholson should be. Nicholson was but a babe of thirty-two when he appeared in Easy Rider. He was thirty-eight when he won … Continue reading

Great Breakups of 2011

Another year is almost finished and with it, several celebrity marriages. Some were predicted (Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries), some were unexpected (Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger), and others were just anticipated from the start (Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher). With Kim and Kris, I think many people predicted their marriage would end so we just simply wouldn’t have to see them on television or the cover of magazines anymore. No such luck. I was pretty surprised by the Maria and Arnold breakup. Yes, there had been rumors of him cheating, but the two had been together since 1977 (married … Continue reading

Green Celebrities: Ted Danson

You probably remember Ted Danson best as Sam Malone on “Cheers.” But, Ted also has another passion – saving our oceans. Danson has been interested in saving the environment from a young age, but he has focused primarily on saving our oceans. Part of what sparked his interest was when he took his kids to the ocean at Santa Monica. On that particular day, the kids couldn’t swim because of a “Water polluted, no swimming” sign. Danson said explaining to his kids why they couldn’t swim “was hard,” and he said “it got questioning a lot of things.” After that, … Continue reading

Green Celebrities: Edward Norton

Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors, but he is also a proponent of green issues. But, then green runs in his family. His father is the director of the Nature Conservancy’s Yunnan Great Rivers conservation project, his sister got her graduate degree in environmental policy, and his brother is a professional guide who has taken whitewater trips through the Grand Canyon. Norton got his start in 1996’s Primal Fear and earn a Best Supporting Actor nod for his performance. Since then, he has combined acting with activism. He has been on the board of Enterprise Community Partners since … Continue reading

If you are a fan of “How I Met Your Mother,” you may be happy to hear that the show will have several guest stars this season. In March, look for Jennifer Lopez to play self-help author Anita Appleby, a self-help author who plans to change womanizing Barney into a relationship guy. Sting’s 18-year-old daughter is proving that bad things can happen at any time. Warren Boyd – The Real Cleaner

Have you seen the new A&E show “The Cleaner?” It features Benjamin Bratt as a former addict who now uses extreme measures to help other addicts get clean. If you’ve seen the show, you may not know that Benjamin’s character, William Banks, is based on a real person. Warren Boyd was raised in sunny Santa Rosa, California, but by the age of 32, he had seen his share of trouble. He had nine DUI convictions and had already spent five years in prison. Addicted to both alcohol and cocaine, Boyd had been in and out of 26 rehab programs without … Continue reading

Do You Compliment Each Other?

I’m not talking about giving each other compliments. I’m talking about how you fit together. Yesterday I wrote about how Wayne and I are opposites, but not. Today I’m going to consider another side of the opposite’s coin. Ying and Yang Those familiar with Chinese philosophy know that ying and yang are opposite, but complementary, forces. I liked a few of the phrases in Wikipedia about ying and yang: “unity of opposites” and “two opposing and, at the same time, complementary (completing) aspects of any one phenomenon.” Completing… Now there’s a concept begging to be dwelled upon. “You Complete Me” … Continue reading
