Celeb Baby News: Jessica Alba is Pregnant and Jennifer Lopez Preps for Twins

It’s official—-trendy and fashionable Jessica Alba is going to be a mommy. One hot mama at that. The actress’ rep recently confirmed that the “Sin City” star is pregnant with boyfriend Cash Warren’s child. “I can confirm that Jessica and Cash are expecting a baby in late spring, early summer,” the sexy screen siren’s rep told PEOPLE magazine. The 26-year-old head turner has dated her 28-year-old director’s assistant boyfriend on-and-off since the fall of 2004 when they met on the set of “The Fantastic Four.” Earlier this year the couple split when Warren reportedly cheated on Alba with another woman. … Continue reading

Fashion Forward: Wedgie-Proof Underwear

Forget about Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Donna Karan, the hottest fashion designers on the block these days are 8-year-old twin boys. If you tuned into “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last week you might be familiar with Justin and Jared Serovich’s fashion forward creation—-wedgie-proof underwear also known as the “Rip Away 1000.” The boys rigged boxer shorts and fabric fasteners to hold together some seams—and voila—instant protection from underwear grabbing bullies. “When the person tries to grab you and tries to give you a wedgie – they just rip away,” Justin explained to DeGeneres. The third graders say they came … Continue reading

Must Have Items For Fall That You May Already Own

Just in time for Halloween the weather around here is finally beginning to feel fall-like. (Never mind that I pulled out our sweaters and corduroy pants months ago.) As I perused my closet the other night I was pleasantly surprised (make that shocked) to see that I actually own a few items that fashion experts claim are “must-have” pieces for Fall 2007. This, of course, means that if my closet has items fit for a fall fashionista, yours must too. Take a look at the following list and see if you have the makings of a trendy fall collection in … Continue reading

Back To School Fashion Trends

I ran over to the mall this morning to get a new battery for my watch. BIG mistake. I would guess that every intermediate and high school student in the county was there buying new outfits to wear to the first day of school tomorrow. Growing up I went to Catholic school, so needless to say, my summers weren’t spent doing the mall crawl searching for the perfect back to school ensemble. Rather, my mom spent the better half of the summer sewing school uniforms (navy blue slacks and skirts paired with white shirts and navy blue block knot ties). … Continue reading

“Does My Butt Look Big In This?”

How many times have you uttered those words? My friends and family will tell you they’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made them to “honestly” answer that question. As I think about it, I can’t remember a time I’ve gone shopping for jeans without raising the butt question. After all, who wants to drop $50 on good denim if it makes your rear look unflattering? I, for one, appreciate having someone who can convince me to put back that pair of super skinny jeans… and stick with khakis. But what happens when you are jeans shopping ALONE? It’s … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Hired, Fired, and Very Much Desired

HIRED! What do Australian actress Naomi Watts and Harry Potter have in common? Read on. Watts hasn’t even given birth yet (though she’s reportedly due to pop any hour now) and she has already booked her next post-pregnancy acting gig. Forget about being a stay-at-home mom, Watts has reportedly signed on to star in the big screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s sixth book in the Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince.” According to Mugglenet.com, Watts will play Narcissa Malfoy, mother to school bully Draco Malfoy. Shooting is scheduled to begin in September. So by my calculations she … Continue reading

Fashionista’s Aha! Moment

Wikipedia defines “fashionista” as someone who is an “avid follower of fashion.” Perhaps, then you could consider actress Pam Anderson the “anti-fashionista.” It’s not so much that she doesn’t follow fashion, she just… well, she’s just not credited with being very fashionable. The guru of fashion Mr. Blackwell once called Anderson “the worst dressed star trying to stay on television.” Known for sashaying around L.A. in her Daisy dukes and barely-there shirts that accentuated her famous chest, Anderson had another trademark clothing item—those infamous UGGs. The former “Baywatch” star is actually credited with popularizing the sheepskin boots. In fact, in … Continue reading

Home Trends—What’s In and What’s Out

I’m used to writing about what’s “in” and “out” in the world of fashion, but I’ve decided to apply the same concept here in the HOME blog. I was inspired to do so after visiting a friend’s home and hearing her ask me if I thought her new granite countertops would ever “go out of style.” (Never mind that she and her husband just forked over more than $40,000 to upgrade their entire kitchen, which included the installation of the shiny granite countertops, new fixtures, and custom made cabinets.) My reply: “If they do, you can send them my way.” … Continue reading

Fall Fashion Preview—Short Skirts and “Acid” Accents

With temperatures hovering near MINUS 15 degrees Fahrenheit (at least here in the Upper Midwest) it’s hard to think about wearing short, flirty skirts. But, short hemlines are one of the first trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week. The annual event, currently underway in the Big Apple, is drawing huge crowds of celebrities, their stylists, fashion editors and retailers. In a previous blog I listed some of the first must-have items to emerge from the runways. This blogs recaps some of the other trends revealed at yesterday’s shows. While the rest of the country was prepping to watch … Continue reading
