Infamous Hotel Rooms – Part 2

Are you planning to travel this summer and still looking for an unusual place to stay? Consider some of one of these infamous hotel rooms: Room 217 – The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, CO The Stanley Hotel was built in 1909 and is elegant and historic but apparently Stephen King saw more than that when he stayed in room 217. It is said that The Stanley Hotel was his inspiration for his thriller The Shining, although none of the movie was actually filmed here. Still, legend has it that the 138-room hotel is haunted, so maybe that provided inspiration for … Continue reading

When Politicians Choose Bad Campaign Songs – Part I

It is that time again – time for politicians to try to appear to be in touch with the common man and in doing so, choose mostly inappropriate campaign songs. This phenomenon has been happening for a while now. You might remember that Ronald Reagan used Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” as one of his songs. Oh sure, on the surface, it seemed like quite a good choice. But, let’s look past the title to the actual lyrics. Here are just some of them – “I got in a little hometown jam, And so they put a rifle in … Continue reading

Choosing Service to Our Country Over Fame

A while back, I had blogged about people who had a brush with fame, then left it all to become average Joes. Today, I read a story about a guy who had all the credentials to be a pro athlete, but decided to leave that behind to serve in the military. While this is not a popular decision in today’s world, during World War II, most male celebrities decided to abandon their movie careers to join the military. Our country was at a time of peril and it just seemed like the right thing to do. People like Jimmy Stewart, … Continue reading

Electronic Arts has recently released information that indicates that the game will be a casual game full of “Blox-laying chickens or…baseball-throwing monkeys” or cartoonlike grim reapers in tiki, medieval, frontier, or haunted themed settings.” In other words, it is probably going to be full of a lot of weird … Continue reading

Michael Jackson: Converting to Islam?

There is talk that Michael Jackson is planning to convert to Islam. It was brother Jermaine that released this news to the media earlier this week. Jermaine, a Muslim since 1989, said that Michael had been reading Islamic books and is interested in the faith. Maybe Michael is looking for something to provide him with inner peace after two very tumultuous decades. Michael has actually been lying relatively low lately. Through the years though, he has been in the news for one reason or another. It used to be that Michael was in the news for good reasons. The self-professed … Continue reading

Super Crazy Super Bowl Stunt

Did you hear the news? The Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears was seen by 93.2 million people, making it the third most-watched TV broadcast in history. Only the 1982 “M-A-S-H” finale and the 1996 Super Bowl between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers had more viewers. One of those viewers was a teenager living in Minnesota whose family has a tradition of running around their yard during the big game. Personally, I think it’s a wacky tradition, but not a completely crazy concept… unless of course it is –17 degrees below zero when you’re executing … Continue reading
