Whoopi Gets a New Gig and Olivia Gets a New Husband

I guess hosting the Tony Awards just wasn’t enough for Whoopi Goldberg. According to reports, “The View” co-host is headed back to Broadway later this month. Goldberg is said to have signed a deal to appear in the Tony-nominated roller-skating musical “Xanadu” as one of the show’s evil sisters, Caliope. The 52-year-old actress begins her six-week run on July 29, taking over for actress Jackie Hoffman, who will return to the production on September 9th, the same time Goldberg will return to the ABC chatfest as it begins its 12th season. Goldberg’s latest Broadway gig follows her own one-woman show, … Continue reading

Viewing “The View” from a Different Angle

They’ve tried doing the show with a loud-mouthed dictator at the helm. And prior to that they tried to keep audiences while a self-absorbed, shoe-loving diva sat at the table. Now “The View” is trying a different tactic to score viewers–give fans V.I.P. backstage access to the show. Producers say it has never been done before (at least on their show) and so come Memorial Day the chatfest will make history by airing an unusual experiment that will give viewers a chance to see what happens behind the scenes at the daytime talk show. According to ABC bigwigs, in two … Continue reading

Meredith Returns To “The View” and Rachael Ray Wants To Taste Your Cooking

The good news: Meredith Vieira is retuning to ABC’s “The View.” The bad news: She’s only staying for a day. Actually, she’s only scheduled to be on for one segment, but here’s hoping it will be a long one. Meredith Vieira… remember her? She was the daytime chatfest’s moderator for nine years before she left for her current gig at NBC’s “Today” show. Vieira replaced Katie Couric who left her cushy job for the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News. On “The View” Vieira was replaced by Rosie O’Donnell who was replaced by Whoopi Goldberg. Got that? The sorely … Continue reading

Is Rosie Trying To Ruin “The View?”

One might come to that conclusion after noting the former “View” co-host’s timing in releasing excerpts from her new book. And beyond that, the controversial jabs she takes at her former boss Barbara Walters. Oh where to begin… Rosie O’Donnell recently penned a new book called “Celebrity Detox.” (It’s scheduled for publication next month.) In it the comedian speaks out about her tumultuous tenure of “The View” (including her bitter feud with real estate mogul Donald Trump) and her relationship with each of the ladies she sat next to at the “Hot Topics” table—namely show creator Walters. Let’s just say … Continue reading

The View On “The View”—Whoopi on Vick’s Dogfighting Case

Who said the drama meter would dip on “The View” with Rosie O’Donnell being gone? The outspoken O’Donnell may have fled from ABC’s daytime chatfest, but it didn’t take her replacement long to stir things up. Yes, controversy has found its way back to the talk show set. Just minutes after Whoopi Goldberg debuted as the show’s new co-host yesterday she made a comment about Michael Vick’s dog fighting case. In case you missed it, the actress-turned talk show host basically said that in the culture that Vick was raised, dog fighting was not such an unusual practice. She then … Continue reading

A View of “The View’s” New Season

Did greed get in the way of making the ladies a quintet? Will Elizabeth give birth on air? And will Whoopi really last the entire season? Those questions and more should be answered in the coming weeks as ABC’s daytime chatfest kicks off its 11th season on September 4th. Yesterday the network unveiled the official promo shot for “The View,” and new moderator Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t look as uncomfortable as I thought she might. I know she willing took the job, so why should she look repulsed in the shot that has a very pregnant Elizabeth Hasselbeck smashed up against … Continue reading

Whoopi’s View on “The View”

Now that she is officially the newest member of the ABC chatfest “The View” it seems everyone is clamoring to hear what Whoopi Goldberg has to say about her new role on daytime TV. The answer: not much. Goldberg tells viewers if they are looking to get an earful on-air or off regarding her views on controversial topics they may be disappointed. The award-winning actress says she is has a more relaxed approach to hosting than her predecessors and doesn’t need to say much to get her point across. “I disagree with a lot of stuff a lot of people … Continue reading

“The View” Picks New Co-Hosts

Okay, it’s not official, but several news outlets are reporting that the bigwigs over at ABC’s daytime chatfest “The View” have finally chosen two females to fill in the empty seats at the “Hot Topics” table. According to the Los Angeles Times, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd are about to hop into the hot seats. A formal announcement by show creator Barbara Walters is expected next week. The report comes after a year of musical chairs amongst the co-hosts. Star Jones Reynolds left the show in true drama queen fashion (she says she quit, producers say she was fired). In … Continue reading

How Do You Pronounce It?

Is it “Bay-jing,” “Bay-zhing” or “Bay-zheeng”? The 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China are rapidly coming to a close and I have yet to view a day of coverage where broadcasters are on the same page when it comes to pronouncing the host city’s name. Have you noticed this too? Brian Williams spent more than a week anchoring NBC’s “Nightly News” from a place he calls “Bay-jing.” The veteran news anchor makes a concerted effort to place the emphasis on the second syllable and he sounds as though he knows what he is doing. However, lead primetime Olympic anchor … Continue reading
