Johnny Depp Gives Away His Fedora

I have always loved Johnny Depp, every since he appeared in “21 Jumpstreet.” But, his reputation has not always been the best. Johnny has always been known for his choice in accepting quirky roles others would refuse. I mean can you see Leonardo DiCaprio as Edward Scissorhands? This need to go his own way with roles has led much of Hollywood to think he is a bit odd. During the early 90s, he had a few run-ins with the law. He was arrested in 1994 for damaging a $1,200 a night room at the Mark Hotel in New York City. … Continue reading

K-Fed–From Super Daddy to Sugar Daddy

The ladies love Kevin Federline’s big, fat… tips. And why not? Britney Spears’ ex recently rewarded a cocktail waitress with a $2,000 tip on a $365 meal tab. No word on what she did to deserve the huge bonus, but that’s fodder for another blog. This blog is all about the Benjamins and how purported pauper Federline is making like a king with his ex-wife’s money. Last week the Superior Court of California released K-Fed’s financial records detailing his spending habits between May 2007 and January 2008. The documents were collected in conjunction with the ongoing custody battle Federline is … Continue reading

A Second Boy For Brit and K-Fed

Rejoice! He’s here! Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have added a second son to their fast growing brood, according to several entertainment magazines. I say “Rejoice” somewhat tongue-in-cheek since so much has been made of Spears’ second pregnancy. “Rejoice” not only because from all accounts the child is healthy, but also because the “Britney Baby Watch” is finally over. According to news reports, the newest Federline was born just before 2 a.m. Tuesday at a Los Angeles hospital, and was delivered via a scheduled C-section. Back in August, PEOPLE Magazine reported that Spears said childbirth “will be a piece of … Continue reading

The Many Roles of K-Fed

“K-Fed,” “Mrs. Britney Spears,” “Eminem wannabe,” whatever you want to call him Kevin Federline will likely answer… at least that’s what he told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show today. He’ll answer because he wants the attention. (Okay, that’s just my humble opinion.) Despite the fact that Federline has been on the scene for a while, I still don’t know what to make of him. Yes, he is married to pop princess Britney Spears. And, yes, they have an 11-month-old son Sean Preston together and are expecting baby number two any day now (and no, he swears he doesn’t know … Continue reading

Are There Such Things as Wifely Duties?

Yesterday a volunteering friend used the phrase “wifely duties.”  She did so somewhat in jest, but the phrase stuck with me.  I certainly think that I have duties to Jonathan, but I shudder at calling them wifely duties.  I don’t think these duties have anything to do with me being his wife, or rather, have anything to do with the fact that I’m the woman in the relationship. I’d like the phrases “spousal duties” or “partnerly duties,” better (if the latter was a real word).  I have certain duties to Jonathan because I am married to him, but gender roles … Continue reading

Women’s History at Disney

In recent years more credit and accolades have gone to those behind the birth of animation, through the many acknowledgments (including a 2005 documentary) to Disney’s famous “Nine Old Men,” the main animators responsible for Disney’s golden age. But these Nine Old Men were backed by more than their mostly-male animation department. For the glory years of Disney’s early animation, from the first cartoon shorts to the feature films leading up to World War II, the department in charge of all the inking and painting of the drawings was staffed almost exclusively by women. In honor of Women’s History Month, … Continue reading

“Alice” in Turmoil

Today Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” adaptation hits the screen, but not all the buzz surrounding the film is positive. Disney executives recently stirred up controversy over the film when they announced that they’ll release it on DVD only 12 weeks after its debut in theaters. The short, unprecedented gap between the cinema and home release of “Alice in Wonderland” begs the question whether many fans will bother to see the movie in theaters. Why fight crowds and pay exorbitant ticket prices when one can buy or rent the film after a small wait? That’s exactly what has many theater … Continue reading

VP Picks and Judgement

Tonight is the second debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. This and the Tina Fey send up of Sarah Palin in last week’s debate has got me thinking about the people chosen by the candidates. What do their choices reflect about their judgement? Much has been made about the VP choices, particularly McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin. Many in the media, and even McCain supporters have questioned the decision, with some even calling for her to step down. The biggest issue I’ve heard raised is her lack of knowledge and experience needed for the office she seeks. Some would … Continue reading

Do You Know Which Celebrities Your Spouse Finds Attractive?

I’m wondering because for Wayne it’s Britney Spears. Hands down. Has been for a while now. He used to admit it openly. Before it became overwhelmingly obvious what a train wreck she really was. He laughed off her first marriage. But let me tell you how fast he raised his hand when we went to her concert a few years back. She was talking to the audience between songs and asked something about needing someone to keep her company, any volunteers? He forgave her marrying Kevin Federline, but rejoiced at the news of their divorce. But then it became apparent … Continue reading

Being Generous on a Budget, Part One – Comfort Them With Food

First of all, I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday. I know I certainly did. I am absolutely stuffed to the point where I can barely think (about anything other than food, anyway). Therefore, I guess it is appropriate that my first post-holiday blog post is all about food. During our holiday meal, my sister (who just had a new baby) thanked my mom for all of the food she brought her when she arrived home from the hospital. While most people send flowers, bring clothes, blankies and other baby gifts my mom brought a baked ham, some crock-pot … Continue reading
