Sherman Hemsley Dies

Forgive the pun, but today, actor Sherman Hemsley moved on up, to a deluxe apartment in the sky. Now, if you don’t get the pun in that sentence, then you probably never watched “The Jeffersons.” Hemsley played the lead, George Jefferson, on that show, one of the most beloved comedies of the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. Heiress Sunny von Bulow Dies

You might not remember the story of Sunny von Bulow. The reason may be that the heiress has lived in a comatose state for the past 28 years. She died last Saturday at the age of 76, surrounded by her children and nurses, but still giving no indication that she knew they were there. Martha “Sunny” von Bulow started out life with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was the only child of utilities magnate George Crawford and Annie Laurie Warmack. Television Celebrity Deaths: Paul Benedict and Beverly Garland

Actor Paul Benedict died last Monday at the age of 70. Benedict is probably best remembered as playing Mr. Bentley, the English neighbor of George Jefferson, on “The Jeffersons.” Benedict played the character on the show from 1975 until 1985 with a briefly departure for the 1982 season. Benedict suffered from acromegaly, a pituitary disorder which gave him an over-sized jaw and angular features. The unusual looks allowed him to use his facial features well in comedy skits.
