Susan Boyle Stuck With Secondby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 30 May 2009 05:12 PM I know she wanted to sing for the Queen of England, but, c'mon, did Susan Boyle really need to walk away with Britain's Got Talent's royal crown to score a record deal and legions of fans the world over. I pretty sure she's got that already... thanks in large part to YouTube. If you haven't already heard, the frumpy 48-year-old singer from Scotland failed to finish in first place on the British reality TV show. Instead, Boyle, a self-described "shy church volunteer" came in second. She was beat by a dance troupe dubbed "Diversity." (Who?) "The best people won," Boyle said after learning of her loss. "They are very entertaining lads. I wish you all the best." So, Boyle lost to a bunch of dancers, who range in age from 12 to 25-years-old. Their act won them high praise throughout the competition from the show's celebrity judges and fans, but they weren't seen as front-runners. And they certainly weren't considered as "real competition" for Boyle, the odds on favorite ever since she belted out "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Miserables during the show's audition. Boyle took to the stage again tonight, and performed another stirring rendition of the Broadway classic. But, in the end, "Diversity" was victorious and walked away with $159,000, and the right to perform for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show in December. Despite her shocking second place finish Boyle remained gracious, and when asked about her future, the soft-spoken singer answered, "I hope to get an album out. Who knows? I will just play it by ear." Oh, I'm pretty sure she'll get her album. After all, her TV performances have already racked up more than 100 million hits on the Internet, and helped her become a household name. She's done Oprah, Larry King, and made appearance on dozens of other shows. I'm no Merlin, but I would bet that round two of Boyle on the talk show circuit will come as early as tomorrow morning.
