Suri Starts School and Jessica Simpson Ends Country Music Careerby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 14 Apr 2009 11:50 AM It's hard to believe, but the adorable spawn of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes turns 3 on Saturday. Yup, Suri Cruise is getting to be a big girl, and now that she no longer clings to her bottle like a dryer sheet to a fuzzy sock, she's headed off to school. Scientology school to be exact. According to reports, young Suri will attend the Church of Scientology's $8,810 a year New Village Academy in Los Angeles in the fall. A British newspaper alleges Cruise is keen for his youngest child to learn the ways of his religion. But lest you think the girl is too young for ABCs and 123s, consider that Cruise's Hollywood pal Will Smith runs the school. It remains to be seen whether the super star tot will be forced to adhere to all of the school's rules. According to reports, the school is particularly strict about nutrition, demanding a low-carb, low-sodium and low-sugar organic diet. JESSICA SIMPSON ENDS COUNTRY MUSIC CAREER Did you really believe that Jessica Simpson's attempt at being a country music singer would last longer than her MTV reality show? Sadly (for Jessica, not so much for fans) the singer's stab at professional country singing proved to be shorter than her marriage to Nick Lachey. According to reports, due to lackluster sales for her country debut, "Do You Know," Simpson's Nashville record label dumped her a few weeks ago. The 28-year-old songstress is still reportedly part of the Sony Music Group on the Epic label, but is no longer working with the company's country division. "Do You Know" had its ups and downs. The lead single, "Come on Over," peaked at No. 18 last summer and the album debuted at No. 1. However, the second single, "Remember That," only made it to No. 42, and the third single, "Pray Out Loud," failed to crack the Top 100. As for what the blonde singer turned actress plans to do now, reports say she's hoping to spend the next few months planning a wedding to football boy toy Tony Romo, which may come as news to Tony Romo. Hopefully in the future she will make up her own mind about religion instead of feeling obliged to only share her parents beliefs. Libby Pelham |
