Two of my favorite award shows are coming up soon – the Grammys and the Academy Awards. There is a bit of new on the Grammy front. Troubled songstress Amy Winehouse, who many critics have picked to win several Grammys this year, will not attend the ceremony. Well, it isn’t so much that she won’t attend the Grammys – she can’t! Is Oscar Unfair to Foreign Filmmakers?

Believe it or not, it’s that time of the year again – Oscar buzz has already started. But some filmmakers are hissing rather than buzzing about the Academy’s rules for foreign films. The Academy has a set of official rules that a film must adhere to in order to be eligible for Oscar consideration in the foreign language film category. One film of this year that has been getting buzz will not be getting consideration. Celebrity Updates: Roger Ebert and Jon Stewart

It’s nice to see Roger Ebert’s name in the headlines for something not related to his health problems. This time it’s good news for the 65-year-old film critic. According to Hollywood insiders, Ebert will be honored at the 17th annual Gotham Awards for his contributions to independent cinema. (An official announcement about the Ebert tribute is planned for tomorrow.)
