Steve Martin Makes History and Sarah Palin Goes for Brokeby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 23 Jan 2009 11:26 AM There is just something about Steve Martin that makes me melt... like chocolate on a hot sidewalk. He is one of my favorite actors, and I am now counting down the days until he makes history on NBC. The super funnyman is set to host "Saturday Night Live" for a record 15th time on January 31st. This will be his first appearance in three years. I can't wait! Martin is the reason I've seen "Father of the Bride," Cheaper by the Dozen," "The Jerk," "All of Me" "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "L.A. Story," "Parenthood" and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" more than a dozen times each. He was also the reason I begrudgingly sat through "Roxanne" and "The Pink Panther." I doubt that I will spend $10 to see him reprise his role in "The Pink Panther 2," but I will be watching (and smiling) when he returns to "SNL." SARAH PALIN GOES FOR BROKE She may have skipped out on Tuesday's big events in Washington, D.C., but Sarah Palin is far from retreating to the shadows of Alaska. In fact, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate recently retained a high-powered connection in Washington: the same attorney who represented Barack Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton when it came to securing their book deals. The 44-year-old Alaskan governor is reportedly trying to sell rights to her own book for a whopping $11 million. By comparison, Laura Bush reportedly received $2 million for her White House memoir, while Hillary Clinton's 2003 bestseller, Living History, generated an $8 million advance. In addition to the book, Palin is said to be considering various TV offers. The mother of five is halfway through her first term as Alaska's governor, and doesn't have plans to change careers right now. However, insiders say the former TV reporter has her sights set on a talk show or some other high-profile job once she leaves politics.
