Spelling Family Home for Sale

If you happen to have $150 million lying around (come on, check those sofa cushions!), you can purchase a really lovely Los Angeles home.

Aaron Spelling, known for such television hits as "Charlie's Angels," "Dynasty," and "Beverly Hills 90210," died in 2006 from a stroke at the age of 83. His widow Candy has now decided to put their lusciously extravagant house up for sale. She allowed her Wheaten Terrier Madison pick out the real estate agent for the job by seeing how the dog reacted. The job finally went to Sally Forster Jones, an agent for Coldwell Banker Previews International. Only in Hollywood folks, only in Hollywood.

Just how extravagant is the home? Well, for starters, the 56,500 square foot home sits on 4.6 acres of land. It is the largest home in Los Angeles County and the $150 million dollar asking price makes it the most expensive home for sale in America right now. I suppose if you have that much money, you don't have to worry about a recession.

The three story French chateau style mansion, built in 1991, has 30 foot ceilings in some rooms. It is rumored that there are 100 rooms, but neither Jones nor Candy could really say. Let's just say you will have enough room for family and friends to visit. They can leave their cars in the 16 count car port unless they want to leave them on the winding motor court that can fit up to 100 cars.

There is plenty of entertainment available without ever leaving the gated home. There is a bowling alley, wine cellar, wine tasting room, gift-wrapping room, humidity-controlled silver storage room, China room, library, gym, media room, barber shop, beauty salon, tennis court, pool and spa (with the pool house that has a kitchen), and of course, a 17,000 square foot attic for storing all your old junk.

You won't want to fraternize with the hired help, so there is a wing for service staff. Even that sounds opulent with a kitchen, seven bedrooms, five fireplaces, and four wet bars.

If you purchase The Manor (as it is called), you will be able to count the Los Angeles Country Club and the Playboy Mansion as among your neighbors. Of course, you will have to walk past your multiple gardens and citrus orchard to borrow a cup of sugar from Hef.

And what of poor Candy? She is downsizing to a two-story condo in Los Angeles that only cost her $47 million.
