Leave it to media hog Simon Cowell to find a grandiose way to keep his legacy alive after his death.

According to a new report, the "American Idol" judge is planning to do the world an "invaluable service" by having his body frozen after he dies so he can be brought back to life in the future.

I have a feeling he's not joking.

The music mogul reportedly shared his brilliant idea with guests at a private dinner hosted by Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Witnesses say Cowell is dead serious about having his body preserved in liquid nitrogen in the hope scientists can find a way to bring him back to life.

Cowell reportedly told partygoers, "I have decided to freeze myself when I die. You know, cryonics. You pay a lot of money and you get stuck in a deep freeze once you've been declared dead. Medical science is bound to work out a way of bringing us back to life in the next century or so, and I want to be available when they do. I would be doing the nation an invaluable service."

Yeah, that's all this world needs... a sardonic, sharp-tongued reality TV star living in perpetuity.

Speaking of "American Idol"...

Sir Anthony Hopkins is reportedly a die-hard fan of the singing competition. In fact, reports say the movie star is such a huge "American Idol" fan that he wants to turn the TV hit into a movie.

Wait... it gets better. According to MTV.com, Hopkins wants to star as tell-it-like-it-is judge Simon Cowell.

Hopkins says he and his family are "American Idol" addicts. What's more, the actor reveals that he is itching to play Cowell on the big screen.

"Simon (is my favorite) because he's so brutally honest. There's no political correctness with him," Hopkins tells MTV. "He says it as it is."

Hannibal Lecter does "Idol," this I gotta see.
