Sarah Palin Copycats

Love her or not Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is at the top of the charts... for most sought after Halloween costume.

Some call her scary, others consider her stylish. Regardless of the opinion, leading costume shop owners around the nation say hundreds of thousands of women are clamoring to dress like the pit-bullish hockey mom... with lipstick. And not just for Halloween. Fashion experts say practically everything Palin dons from her trademark glasses to her peep-toe pumps are in high demand right now.

For example, if you are looking to see out of the same glasses as Palin expect to wait at least 6 weeks. Demand for the Alaska governor's signature Kazuo Kawasaki rimless eyeglasses has quadrupled since the Republican National Convention, according to the brand's U.S. distributor, and the backorders keep mounting. Company reps say to fulfill orders for the $375 frames (style series 704, color 34) workers are now manufacturing the glasses around the clock.

Meanwhile, the red peep-toe 3 1/2-inch heels by Naughty Monkey that Palin wore in St. Paul during the political convention, are flying off the shelves as well.

According to the folks at Amazon.com, sales for the "hooker heels" jumped 50% in the days following Palin's appearance in them.

The spike in sales even shocked the director of the brand's parent company. Last week Jay Randhawa told the Wall Street Journal that the pumps were originally designed for 20-something club-goers like Paris Hilton. The shoe company big wig went on to reveal that he was "surprised" to see them on Palin's feet.

"The age bracket we target is a little younger," Randhawa told the Wall Street Journal. "It's a very edgy, very hip, very street brand."

(Insert sly remark about Palin's "edginess" here.)

But it doesn't stop there. Owners of wig stores are also trying to capitalize on Palin's popularity. The owner of WigSalon.com told news reporters that he is highlighting a selection of Palin-esque wigs, including ones that are already fashioned in the vice presidential nominee's famous up-do with straight bangs.

What do you make of Palin's style... or lack thereof? Would you consider dressing like her for Halloween or any other day of the year?

SNL, I think Tina Faye, did a great Palin last night.

It shows you just how thick some people are, not wonder America is in such a state, when people like that are allowed to vote.

Um. . .I just got my second shower this week. And only because I get to go to church today while my family stays home and convalesces their illnesses. Definitely not looking to dress like Sarah Palin. ;-)

I thought the homeschooling bit was hilarious, but then my perspective is a bit different because I homeschool and I am known for a slightly irreverant sense of humor...

I think Sarah Palin is a nice enough looking woman, but I really don't aspire to copy her style. She is very business professional, I am very jeans and cute blouses or sundresses and sandals. Her look is not the sort of thing I like to wear at all.

I hope your family gets to feeling better soon, Valorie!

Tina Fey does a better Palin than Palin. She was dead on last night. In fact, when I first walked in the room and glanced at the TV I thought it was the real Palin. Fey's stint was the highlight of the show. I was disappointed by Phelps, but then what could you really expect? The guy's a swimmer not a comedian. But honestly couldn't they find more for him to do than grunt through braces and headgear and utter a couple words dressed like an Amish homeschooler? Even Weekend Update was disappointing IMO.

Awww. . .thanks deedee.
