Couple Visits Disneyland Every Day in 2012

At the end of 2012 I came across an interesting post on the official Disney Parks blog: a couple visited Disneyland every single day in 2012.  On December 31, Jeff Reitz and Tonya Mickesh received special gifts personally from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs.  It was a typical fancy Disney ceremony: as the two made their way down Main Street, Staggs was waiting for them to present their honors in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Their honors included being made honorary citizens of Disneyland, and a stay in the Disneyland Dream Suite, a luxury apartment off the … Continue reading

William and Catherine Get Married

This morning was the royal wedding – the big event that some estimated was seen by over 2 billion people around the world. Good thing Kate, or Catherine as she has asked to be called now, doesn’t have to send everyone Thank You cards. The day went off without a hitch for the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The couple were given that title right before the wedding this morning. But, that wasn’t the only title they got. They also became the Earl and Countess of Strathearn and the Baron and Baroness of Carrickfergus. It was grey skies in … Continue reading

Royal Weddings: Now and Then

It was almost 30 years ago, but I still remember it vividly. It started on July 28th because I stayed up all night for the event of the decade – Prince Charles’ wedding to Lady Diana Spencer. This young, beautiful, innocent, barely out of her teens girl seemed to carry the future of a whole country on her back. We were close in age – actually, I was two years younger, but everyone I knew admired her, even though we had nothing in common with her. After all, she was marrying a prince and I was lying in the pallet … Continue reading

Prince Charles Narrates Green Doc

You may have heard of the Sundance Film Festival, the popular event held each January in Utah. You may or may not know that actor Robert Redford was the founder of the Sundance Film Festival. You may also not know that Sundance now has a festival in London (Sundance London). And, you may not know that tonight is the opening night of the first Sundance London Festival. Premiering at Sundance London this year is Harmony: A New Way of Looking At Our World. What makes this documentary so special? Prince Charles narrates the flick and will be there to introduce … Continue reading

Who is Kate Middleton?

It’s just two days now before the big royal wedding and you may be wondering just who the bride, Kate Middleton, is. Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, soon to be known as Princess, grew up in Bucklebury, Berkshire, England. She met Prince William in 2001 when they both attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Kate has two siblings – sister Philippa (known as Pippa) and brother James. Kate has worked as an accessory buyer for Jigsaw, a clothing chain, but wanted to be a professional photographer, although that didn’t work out. Like William’s mother Princess Diana, Kate is often admired … Continue reading

Family Fun at the Fair

You know it’s summer in Wisconsin when the pigs are racing and chocolate-covered bacon is being served on a stick. Attending the Wisconsin State Fair is a family tradition for us. The annual event is kid-friendly, and believe it or not, educational. Along with inhaling endless food creations-on-a-stick, my young daughter delights in visiting the live animal exhibits, chemistry shows, and hands-on demos that make learning fun. If you are looking for a family-friendly place to bond with your kids, then check out the following popular state fairs Minnesota State Fair: Known as one of the largest and best-attended agricultural … Continue reading

Celebrity Tragedy: Alan Freed

In case you have not noticed, Michele and I are the yin yang of the pop culture blog. She usually concentrates on cheery stories about weddings and babies while I tend to focus a bit on the darker side of fame. I mean, after all, you have to admit that Hollywood has its share of tragedies. But, all areas of fame have their dark side, their tragic stories of the good gone bad. Such is the case of 50’s super disc jockey Alan Freed. I had briefly mentioned Alan Freed when I was talking about Jesse Blevin, a singer who … Continue reading

Author Interview – Anne Bradshaw

Today’s interview features Anne Bradshaw, LDS British novelist and the author of several magazine articles. She is joining us for an exclusive discussion about herself, her work, and her future projects. Anne, thank you for taking the time to meet with us. You have such a lovely accent; where are you from, originally, and how did you come to live here in the United States? I was born in Caernarvon, Wales as my parents moved there from London during the war. Three years later, we moved to Cheshire in Northern England. I grew up, attended school, and married there. My … Continue reading
