Rosie’s Most Unforgettable Moments

Rosie O’Donnell has only been on “The View” for 6.5 months, but you’d think it was a lifetime… if you were Barbara Walters. To say the controversial co-host (who just announced she intends to leave the chatfest in June) has been a lightning rod for controversy is an understatement. Her verbal antics have been fodder for many of the blogs in the Pop Culture category here at families.com. And, while some of you may be sick of reading about Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, and the many, many moments she firmly planted her foot in her mouth I would be remiss if … Continue reading

Lifetime Movie about Foster Care airs Saturday

Tomorrow night (Saturday February 28), the cable channel Lifetime will air an original movie about the foster care system, and more specifically about the dilemma of one teen, raised in foster care (and sometimes abused there), about to turn 18 and “age out” of the system. The teen’s name is America, which is also the title of the movie. I have written a past blog, detailing how teens in foster care are usually literally turned out on the streets on their 18th birthday. Often still in high school, it is a nearly insurmountable task to pay for an apartment, work, … Continue reading

Foster Dumps Gal Pal and Walters Gets Dumped On

FOSTER DUMPS GAL PAL Actress Jodie Foster is parenting solo these days. According to reports, the movie maven has split with her live-in partner Cydney Bernard. Interestingly, news of the break-up comes less than six months after the extremely private star thanked Bernard for 14 years of “loving support” at an awards ceremony. During her an acceptance speech at a Los Angeles film gala in December Foster called her partner, “My beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through the rotten and the bliss.” She then gushed about how happy she was with her. The moment was noteworthy because prior to … Continue reading

Barbara Tells All

During the entire Star Jones brouhaha and again during the Rosie O’Donnell drama she remained discreetly tight-lipped. I admired that about Barbara Walters, but now it appears her ability to stay mum wasn’t so much a credit to her professionalism, but rather her desire to use the material to fill pages in her new memoir. If you haven’t already heard, legendary TV journalist Barbara Walters has written a new book Audition, which chronicles her illustrious career and includes a few other tawdry tidbits, not the least of which is her admission that she carried on an affair with U.S. Senator … Continue reading

Why Rosie Won’t Be Taking On Larry King

Isn’t it ironic? For months the peacock network has been courting Rosie O’Donnell for a possible primetime talk show to air on MSNBC. Then, less than a day after the acerbic comedian blabbed to the media about the pending deal, NBC pulled the plug on its offer. O’Donnell was spurned for speaking out of turn, but later laughed off the incident when speaking about NBC’s decision on her website. “Listen, I’m too old!” O’Donnell said with a chuckle. “When you’re young, you do those things. ‘Yes, I won’t tell anyone! Lock me in the NBC vault!’ ” So, here’s the … Continue reading

Deal or No Deal—Osmond’s Yes, Rosie No

It’s a done deal. Despite the death of their beloved father George Osmond, the Osmond siblings (plus 120 other family members) will appear on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” as planned. Donny Osmond told TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” that after much thought the family decided to go through with plans to appear on the legendary talk show host’s show. Osmond revealed that Winfrey sent a private jet to Provo, Utah where the family had gathered following the news of patriarch George’s death. More than 125 Osmond’s boarded the plane to Chicago where they will tape a reunion episode tomorrow. According to Donny, … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Rosie’s Return and the “Dancing” Tour

ROSIE’S RETURN There’s no keeping her away. Rosie O’Donnell is ready for primetime. But are you ready for Rosie on primetime? While nothing has been set in stone, new reports confirm that the former daytime talk show host turned “View” basher is hooking up with cable news channel MSNBC to host her own show. According to The New York Times, O’Donnell is currently in discussions with MSNBC, but no deal has been inked. The paper says various scenarios are being considered including giving O’Donnell a primetime slot that would pit her show against Hannity & Colmes on FOX News Channel … Continue reading

Rosie & Barbara Far From Friends

Be careful what you tell Rosie O’Donnell. It’s a lesson Barbara Walters is learning the hard way. Last week, the former “View” co-host joined Roseanne Barr on stage at a local New York City comedy club and sang like a canary divulging some of Walters’s most intimate secrets. According to the New York Daily News, O’Donnell started off by telling the audience that contrary to popular belief, she was fired by the Emmy Award-winning journalist. The truth finally comes out. The revelation was a far cry from the glossy statement given by O’Donnell earlier this summer when she told the … Continue reading

Ro Says No To “O”

Does anyone say no to the fabulous Miss “O?” Apparently, if your name is Rosie O’Donnell the answer is yes. Yes, Ro said no to “O” — as in the legendary talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. In a move that has made headlines around the world (go ahead, roll your eyes), the comedian confirms that she turned down a recent invitation by Winfrey to promote her upcoming autobiography, “Celebrity Detox” on air. O’Donnell says she decided not to go on the No.1 daytime talk show in America because the subject matter in her new book is “too raw.” Oh, puh-leeze. … Continue reading

Barry Manilow Disses “The View” Or “The View” Disses Barry

Who’s dissing whom? Legendary performer Barry Manilow says he is snubbing the ladies of “The View.” Specifically, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Oh, there’s just never a dull moment on that daytime chatfest. Manilow went public today saying he is backing out of his scheduled appearance on the ABC talk show because producers refused to allow him to be interviewed by all the ladies except Hasselbeck. The message on Manilow’s blog reads: “I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on The View tomorrow as scheduled. I had made a request that I be interviewed by Joy, Barbara or … Continue reading
