Reege to the Rescue—Yet Again!

When in need turn to Reege. ABC did when they needed a host for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” and now CBS has followed suit turning to the king of daytime talk to inject star power into their new primetime game show “Million Dollar Password.” The series debuted on Sunday and delivered solid ratings. Make that king-sized ratings. According to Nielsen, Sunday night’s premiere of “Million Dollar Password” was the highest rated show in its timeslot. And Regis Philbin is taking all the credit. The 76-year-old charmer doesn’t do much on the show, but that’s what makes him so … Continue reading

“Reege” Recovers

I don’t know exactly when it happened. My best guess is that it occurred sometime in college during my first stint as an intern at a local television station. It was then that I got hooked watching Regis Philbin’s morning talk show. Back then he shared airtime with Kathie Lee Gifford, but there was no question that he was the driving force behind the show. Fast-forward about 15 years and Reege is still on the air (though now with the ultra-peppy Kelly Ripa) and I check in every so often to reminisce about my carefree days as a college coed. … Continue reading

Music News: An “Idol” Connection and a Sir Gets a Degree

David Cook Dines with Kimberly Caldwell David Cook not only won this season’s “American Idol,” he may have just won over the heart of a certain Idol alum. David revealed today on “Live with Regis and Kelly” that he had dinner former Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell. The 25-year-old Cook met the 26-year-old Caldwell (who finished in seventh place on season 2 of “American Idol”) through the show. When asked how the date went, Cook replied that he had a good time and said, “we’ll probably hang out again. So we’ll see.” Since her stint on Idol, Caldwell has started acting … Continue reading

New Gigs For Some Old Favorites

I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t fix what’s not broken. So, I’m not sure what producers of the 37-year-old PBS classic “Masterpiece Theatre” are thinking by reformatting the show. Producers call it a “new move,” which means they are doing more “sprucing” than “revamping.” Either way regular viewer of the legendary anthology series will have to get use to a new look. According to show producers, the show will be split into three mini-seasons, each with its own theme and host – one of whom is Gillian Anderson. That’s right; Agent Dana Scully from the now defunct FOX series “The … Continue reading

Regis Goes Primetime and Enrique Does Daytime

What’s going on with Regis Philbin? The 75-year-old talk show host said he was seriously considering retiring after this season. And who could blame him? His daytime talk show, “Live with Regis and Kelly” just passed the 20 year mark (he’s remained a constant fixture though his co-hosts have changed over the years), his daughter is about to give birth to his new grandchild, and he just underwent major heart surgery that took him off the air for more than a month. But now in a move that is shocking fans around the nation, instead of slowing down “Reege” recently … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: New Gig(s), New Home, and a Hot New Couple

Does Ryan Seacrest ever sleep? The “American Idol” host took over the title of “Hardest Working Man In Show Business” from Regis Philbin (who took it over from Dick Clark) months ago, and it looks like he’s living up to the billing. (If he’s not the “hardest” working man in show business then he certainly is one of the busiest.) Seacrest has just been tapped to host the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards, which is scheduled to air next month. The announcement comes on the heels of a prior declaration that Seacrest got the job of hosting the Super Bowl pre-game … Continue reading

The Joys Of Celebrity Parenthood

Just call him Grandpa Reege. Or, The King of Grandpas. Either way, talk show host Regis Philbin will likely have a ton of funny baby stories to share once his daughter gives birth early next year. Philbin used his show, “Live with Regis and Kelly” to announce that his daughter Jennifer (JJ) is expecting her first child with husband Michael Schur in February. The couple has been married for nearly two years and both are TV show writers. As for what the couple plans to name their new addition, the grandfather-to-be had this to say: “It will be interesting to … Continue reading

Television Updates: When Two Worlds Collide

It’s a rare event when mother and child can agree on a television show (at least in our home). I would never expect my 3-year-old to ask to watch Matt Damon’s appearance on Oprah. Likewise, I usually duck out when my daughter is watching “Arthur” on PBS so I can fold a few loads of laundry. But, come September 3rd my daughter and I have a date with the same television show. Hottie Matt Damon (who is currently playing former assassin Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Ultimatum”) is tackling a new project next month—complete with bear ears and fur. The … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Regis Returns, Dannielynn Says Bye-Bye to the Bahamas, and More

REGIS RETURNS He’s baaaack! Talk show host Regis Philbin returned to his day job (and a standing ovation by hundreds of fans) today—six weeks after undergoing triple heart bypass surgery. Did you get to see any part of his return on “Live With Regis and Kelly?” I saw bits and pieces and agree with everyone who expressed amazement at how well Philbin looks. (Hard to believe he’s 75!) As promised David Letterman, host of CBS’”Late Show,” was Philbin’s first guest. Letterman called it “payback time.” (Philbin was a guest host when Letterman underwent heart bypass surgery in 2000). Philbin mentioned … Continue reading

Celebrities On the Road To Recovery

Just 48 hours and counting until Regis Philbin returns to his regular spot on the talk show that made him famous… Philbin’s co-host Kelly Ripa announced that her “big daddy” would be back on the set of “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Thursday—six weeks after having triple bypass surgery. And, if that wasn’t exciting enough (really… according to show producer Michael Gelman, tens of thousands of fans sent well wishes to “Reege” during his absence from the show) David Letterman will make a rare appearance as Philbin’s first guest. The billing it fitting… after all, Philbin was a guest … Continue reading
