Prince Harry Fighting the Taliban

So much for keeping it a secret mission. Prince Harry has spent the last 10 weeks on the frontline in Afghanistan serving his country alongside his fellow soldiers. Only the world was not supposed to know about it. Of course, he is the son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, so it should come as no surprise that someone let out that the 23-year-old second lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry had finally gotten his wish to join his fellow British countrymen in the war-torn country. According to news reports, Harry arrived in … Continue reading

Camilla Banned From Princess Diana Memorial Service

That’s what some loyal Princess Diana fans would like people to think, but according to British newspapers, Prince Charles’s wife Camilla voluntarily decided to sit out Friday’s memorial service for the late Princess of Wales. Palace officials say Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry – who will lead the service, marking the 10-year anniversary of her death – extended an invitation to Camilla, and she had initially accepted. But once British newspaper columnists learned that the Duchess of Cornwall, had accepted the invitation from Charles and his sons, they unleashed a litany of postings urging her not to attend … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: The Green Prince and A “Star Wars” Marathon

THE GREEN PRINCE Prince Charles has made headlines for being “green,” but the environmentally friendly future king of England may have a hard time topping this next move. Less than 24 hours ago Madame Tussauds unveiled a new wax figure of Prince Charles to reflect his efforts to combat climate change. Workers at the museum designed a one-of-a-kind “green” version of the Prince of Wales by recycling wax from a 1989 figure of the royal and updated it with 82 pounds of organic beeswax, 55 pounds of clay and fiberglass. Artists also used organic pigments to color the skin. But … Continue reading

Prince Harry—No Iraq

Was it all much ado about nothing? Or was it a legitimate case of risky business? Whatever the real reason is (or if in fact the report is true) Britain’s Prince Harry will not be going with his unit to Iraq. According to Britain’s top general, sending Harry was simply too dangerous. Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt, the army chief of staff who recently traveled to Iraq to assess the situation prior to the prince’s deployment said today, “the changing situation on the ground exposed the prince to too much danger.” The general went on to say that specific threats to … Continue reading

Prince William Suddenly Single

So much for that December royal wedding some were predicting… British tabloids took a hit today after several media outlets confirmed that Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton decided to call it quits. According to The Sun newspaper, the couple reached an “amicable agreement” to separate, though a spokesman at the prince’s office refused to comment on the break up. The 24-year-old prince and his 25-year-old girlfriend met as students at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland in 2001 and first started dating in 2003. They briefly split for about five months a couple of years ago, but got … Continue reading

Prince Charles vs. McDonald’s

In this corner… we have His Royal Highness, Charles, the Prince of Wales: A 58-year-old father of two who likes to grow his own organic vegetables. And, in this corner, it’s the MacDaddy of all fast-food giants, home of the clown bearing its name, and a host of other greasy (yet yummy) menu options–McDonald’s. Ding! Ding! Let’s get ready to rumble! Okay, perhaps, I am overdoing it a bit. After all, the alleged feud between the famous British royal and the fast food chain may not be as bad as many first thought. So how did all of this get … Continue reading

Does Buying Organic Make You a Better Parent?

If you watched Monday’s episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” then you’d think the answer was: “Absolutely!” Take that Jon. Monday’s show featured Kate taking her kids to an organic produce farm run by an Amish family. Cameras captured Kate and her eight kids picking up fresh watermelon, cantaloupe, peppers, corn and other veggies at “Henry’s,” then taking their goods home to make a “meal from scratch.” “It is pure joy when I can go to a produce stand and buy produce that has been picked that morning and it will land on my table that evening for dinner,” … Continue reading

Music News: Bruce, Kylie and Donna’s Summer

An obscure fixture on a New Jersey boardwalk is getting the ultimate honor. Rock and roll icon Bruce Springsteen says he is planning to pay tribute to Madam Marie Castello, who told fortunes on the Asbury Park Boardwalk in New Jersey. The boardwalk fortuneteller, who was made famous in Springsteen’s 1973 song “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” recently died at the age of 93. On his personal website the legendary rocker remembered Castello as a boardwalk fixture at the Temple of Knowledge. “I’d sit across from her on the metal guard rail bordering the beach, and watched as she … Continue reading

Devo Gets Mad-O at McDonald’s and Lilo’s Mystery Sis

If they could really “Whip It” they would probably choose to do so right at burger giant McDonald’s. Cult classic rockers Devo are furious that fast food chain McDonald’s is using the band’s likeness (or so claims the musical group) in a Happy Meal toy. The 80s hitmakers claim the “American Idol” tribute figure, New Wave Nigel, was based on their famous image, as seen in their popular “Whip It” video. Regarding the McDonald’s brouhaha, Devo bass player Gerald Casale, who came up with the punk rock band’s odd jumpsuited look, told news reporters: We’re in the midst of suing … Continue reading
