Meteor Hits Russia

This has been a crazy week.  We woke up Thursday to the news that Olympian Oscar Pitorius was arrested for the murder of his model girlfriend.  In case you don’t remember, Pitorius, a South African, was the runner who had both legs removed below the knee in childhood.  He was called the Blade Runner because of special prosthetics that allowed him to compete in both the Olympics and Paralympics.  After his inspiring runs in the last Summer Olympics, he was treated like a hero, but then on Valentine’s Day, he shot his girlfriend dead, claiming she was an intruder. Before … Continue reading

More Failed Doomsday Predictions – Part 3

Here we are, three days after the predicted rapture. I read on the news that Harold Camping is laying low since the non-rapture and word is that the Family Radio will have a response coming in the next week. Hon-Ming Chen founded the God’s Salvation Church in the early ‘90s. He predicted God would show up on television on March 31, 1998 to save us all. When that didn’t happen, to prove himself to his followers, Chen offered to be stoned or crucified. No one took him up on his offer and the church soon disbanded. Broadcaster turned psychic Charles … Continue reading

Don’t Buy That Vacation Club

I worked for several different babysitting agencies in Southern California before we moved to Texas. It was good and easy money. I’ve always enjoyed working with children and I really enjoyed my clients through the agencies. When we lived at the beach, my favorite babysitting job was working for a timeshare at the beach. For several hours on Saturday and Sunday I’d sit in the child-care room with the children and another sitter while the parents toured the facility. The other sitter and I would have a blast playing cards with each other and the children while the kids watched … Continue reading

Does Your Son Have Long Hair?

Despite being born and raised in Hawaii, I’ve never been into long surfer stud locks. I’ve never thought Fabio’s flowing mane was the least bit attractive, and I think boys with Cousin It bangs and hippie braids that cascade down their backs should be recruited for one of Oprah’s makeover shows. But, that’s just me. I come from the school of two dos for boys: Buzz or bowl cuts. Now, before the hate mail starts rolling in, let me be perfectly clear—-I don’t care how long your son’s hair is, I’m just saying that I would strongly discourage my male … Continue reading

Soul Legend Isaac Hayes Dead at 65

I had a wonderful day of shopping in Wilmington only to come home to read the sad news that Isaac Hayes had died. I guess this hit home more than some deaths because Isaac was from my hometown of Memphis. The Grammy and Oscar winner was found unconscious in his home, next to his treadmill that was still running according to a spokeman for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. The paramedics called to the scene tried to revive him, but he pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial hospital a little after 2:00 p.m. Hayes started out his career as a session … Continue reading

Mario Moves On and Phillippe Pairs Up

It’s over. No really, this time it’s official. According to Mario Lopez, he and Karina Smirnoff have really (really) called it quits this time. And in true Hollywood fashion the sexy “Dancing with the Stars” pro and her former celebrity partner even had their reps issue separate public statements about their now defunct personal relationship. “Karina has parted ways with her two year relationship with Mario Lopez,” says Smirnoff’s spokesperson. “The relationship wasn’t heading in the right direction.” Meanwhile, Lopez issued the following statement through his rep: “Karina and I have the utmost respect for each other. She is a … Continue reading

Jason Beghe Disses Scientology

Do you remember when the Tom Cruise video about Scientology was circulating a few months ago? He seemed almost manically gleeful when talking about the overall greatness of Scientology and spoke about how only Scientologists could save the world. Well, now a former Scientologist has released his own Youtube video, only this one expresses the exact opposite opinions of Scientology. While Tom sang the praises of Scientology, actor Jason Beghe has apparently had enough. This week, the actor called Scientology “destructive” and said it was a “rip-off” on a Youtube interview with Veronica Schmidt. Beghe is best known for his … Continue reading

“Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…”

Who says the queen in “Snow White” has dibs on the only magic mirror around? Not designers at Accenture Labs. The company is being hailed for creating a “magic mirror” that gives ordinary people access to extraordinary views. The mirror provides a computer-enhanced shot of what you might look like in the future. But not only does the mirror age you it also takes into account the bad habits some of us have. For example, if you are a junk food junkie, a smoker, a heavy drinker or live a sedentary life the “magic mirror” incorporates that information into the … Continue reading

Slash Your Heart Attack Risk!

I never want to have a heart attack. I hope it’s something I never get to experience in life. Are you with me? A recent study from the Boston University School of Medicine and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden looked at the medical histories for more than twenty-four thousand women. They found that just FIVE lifestyle choices can cut your heart attack risk by more than ninety percent. The first two choices alone can cut your risk by more than fifty percent. Drink ONLY a moderate amount of alcohol. That means no more than one half glass of wine daily. … Continue reading

Nicole Kidman IS Pregnant

Her publicist, Catherine Olim, has finally confirmed it – Nicole Kidman is pregnant! Of course, the brief statement included that “the couple are thrilled.” Rumors were circulating that she was indeed pregnant (but haven’t they been since before she and Keith Urban even married?) when it was reported that she dropped out of the World War II drama The Reader earlier this month. Nicole’s camp kept denying that she was pregnant and a representative for the production company even refused to say she had quit the Stephen Daldry drama. When specifically asked last week by a Daily Telegraph reporter if … Continue reading
