Yes, It’s More Celebrity Divorces

Another week, another slew of celebrity divorces. Okay, maybe not a slew, but two more celebrity couples are hitting the divorce court. I was surprised when Eva Longoria and Tony Parker announced they were separating. Have we ever seen a picture of these two where they weren’t smiling and looking all in love? Despite the photos of happiness, Longoria files for divorce last week from Parker, citing irreconcilable differences. Longoria is seeking spousal support. Wait, isn’t she like a television star? Oh, maybe she is seeking support because it appears that Parker was cheating on her. Longoria told her old … Continue reading

Top Gun Landmark Burns

In my opinion, the film Top Gun was the one that boosted Tom Cruise to superstar status, a place he hasn’t left despite his strange Scientology ramblings and couch jumping ways. The film, which has grossed over $353 million both nationally and internationally, has become a huge part of pop culture. The movie received four Oscar nominations, although it only won one (for Best Music, Original Song). There are plenty of pop culture references to Top Gun. There is a FedEx ad in which a carpet warehouse guide radios a co-worker when he sees a flying carpet getting away – … Continue reading

Who’s Your Favorite Movie Villain? Part Two

In an earlier blog, I was talking about favorite movie villains. Entertainment Weekly put together a list of the top 50 bad guys in cinema history. But, all the villains on the list weren’t guys. Jennifer Jason Leigh’s Hedy Carlson character from Single White Female also got a nod from EW. I love Jennifer Jason Leigh and think that she is one of the most underappreciated actresses of my generation. Another female baddie was Annie Wilkes aka Kathy Bates from Misery. This is another movie I never saw, but it just makes my ankles hurt writing about it. I am … Continue reading

Robin Williams Divorcing, Richie Sambora Arrested for DUI, and Emilio Improves

It was announced today that Robin Williams’ wife, Marsha Garces Williams, filed for divorce in the San Francisco Superior Court on March 21, listing the reason as irreconcilable differences. The two have been married for 19 years and have two children together, Zelda and Cody. The two met when Marsha was the nanny of Williams and his first wife Valerie Valardi. That couple had one child, son Zachary. Williams’ agent said the two are splitting, but offered no more information. Personally, I love Robin Williams, but it is a wonder she could put up with him for 19 years. He … Continue reading

National Treasure: Still Raking in the Dough

I love Nicolas Cage in dramatic (Leaving Las Vegas), comedic (Peggy Sue Got Married), and romantic roles (Moonstruck), but I think my favorite genre for him is action/adventure. I was in the theatre to see both Con Air and The Rock and they are still two of my favorite Cage movies. Of course, when he did National Treasure, I was overjoyed! In case you missed National Treasure, it is an action/adventure flick that features Nicolas as Benjamin Gates. His family has a long history of being treasure hunters and he carries that on by hunting for treasure, supposedly hidden by … Continue reading

Movie Milestones – 25 Year Anniversaries – Continued

Okay, in a previous blog, I was talking about movies that turn 25 this year. Twenty-five years – it seems like only yesterday I was watching these favorites of mine at the theater! First Blood If you didn’t get enough Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III in 1982, you certainly must have gotten your fill with his then-new character, John Rambo, in First Blood. John was just a Vietnam vet who just wanted to be left alone, but the town police wouldn’t let that happen and he unleashed all his Green Beret experience upon them. If you enjoy a film with … Continue reading

Movie Milestones – 25th Anniversaries

It is the twenty fifth anniversary of many famous films from 1982. I was but a youngster then (19) and going to the movies was one of my favorite activities (still is!). E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial It is hard to believe it has been twenty-five years since Drew Barrymore graced the big screen as the adorable Gertie. It was the highest grossing movie that year and won three of the nine Oscars for which it was nominated. E.T. also won two Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture and Best Original Score for a Motion Picture. Director Steven Spielberg says that E.T. … Continue reading
