More Celebrity Separations: Billy and Katie Lee Joel and Kate and Jon Gosselin

The Piano Man is going to be singing solo again as Billy Joel and his third wife Katie Lee have decided to separate. The official announcement read, "After nearly five years of marriage, Billy Joel and Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate. This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy and Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other." Of course, the statements always sound so nice.

Katie Lee, who is a food critic, married the much older singer/songwriter in 2004. But, if you've been reading the trash mags, all has not been well with the marriage for the last few months. There have been rumors of Katie Lee spending a little too much time with Israel born designer Yigal Azrouel while Billy was on tour. Joel has denied that the suspected romance had anything to do with the separation. However, according to some reports, Katie Lee and Azrouel have been spending a lot of time together, with Azrouel even referring to Katie Lee as his girlfriend to some.

Hopefully next time, Billy will go fishing in his own pond. I know it is not always the case, but marrying someone 33 years younger than you (and just six years older than your daughter) is not always the best plan.

Like the Joels, the Gosselins have seen their names in the news amid rumors of affairs. PEOPLE is reporting that Kate and Jon Gosselin will also be announcing their separation tonight. Legal papers were filed today in the Bucks County Courthouse of Doylestown, Pa. that are said to initiate a divorce, but maybe tonight's episode will enlighten us more. TLC has been touting tonight's episode as having a special announcement and it seems now that it will be that the parents of eight are indeed divorcing.

The couple, who just marked their ten year anniversary (notice I didn't say "celebrated"), have been under scrutiny since Jon was seen leaving a nightclub with Deanna Hummel. Rumors are that controlling Kate is closerthanthis to her bodyguard, Steve Neild, have not helped the situation any.

Is it just me or does it seem perverse to be watching this family explode on television?
