Charlie Sheen’s Not Winning Anymore…or is He?

The Charlie Sheen crazy train continues to roll. In a previous blog, I had comment on how his first “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is not an Option” tour show did not go well. Detroit booed him, but he tweaked the show a bit and Chicago loved him. The crowd even chanted “Detroit Sucks.” Then, he went to Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The actor was 30 minutes late, yet he still got a standing ovation upon arrival. But, somewhere along the way, things went wrong – terribly wrong. His 90 minute show ended up only lasting … Continue reading

Is Your Toddler Destined to be a Troublemaker?

He is if his name is: Alec Ernest Garland Ivan Kareem Luke Malcolm Preston Tyrell Walter Ah, so, now we finally know what’s in a name… trouble, trouble, and trouble. At least that’s what the experts maintain. And by experts I mean a professor from Shippensburg University named David Kalist. Writing in Social Science Quarterly, Kalist insists that giving your boy any of the aforementioned names could land him in jail later in life. Why? Kalist believes that giving newborn males odd, girly or strange first names it “increases the tendency toward juvenile delinquency.” Kalist based his conclusions on a … Continue reading

More Celebrities in Trouble

It seems that hardly a day goes by that some celebrity is not in trouble with the law. And today is no exception. Vivica Fox has been spared going to jail, despite being arrested for DUI. She was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol while driving her Cadillac Escalade in March of this year. She was charged with DUI when she failed several sobriety tests. She pleaded no contest and she was sentenced to three years probation. The Superior Court judge also ordered her to enter an alcohol education program that will last for 90 days. In addition, she … Continue reading

Celebrities Lost: Phil Spector

It was just recently announced that Phil Spector would not go to trial for murder until January 16, 2007. His court date has been rescheduled several times, after originally being set for September 2005, due to scheduling conflicts of lawyers and judges involved in the case. He has remained free on a $1 million dollar bond since November 2003. B-movie star Lana Clarkson was killed in Spector’s house in February 2003. Clarkson was waitressing at House of Blues and had only met Spector the day she died. Police said Spector was quoted as saying “I didn’t mean to shoot her.” … Continue reading

Hurricane Sandy Relief

Well, it’s Election Day and thank goodness – I don’t think I can take any more ads, debates, or Facebook posts. While many people are focused on the election, much of the country’s focus is still on Hurricane Sandy’s destruction on the east coast and providing relief to those in need. While the physical storm is over, the real problems still exist and will for months, if not years to come. Some people are having trouble getting gas, some are still without electricity, many are homeless, and now that section of the country is facing a nor’easter, which could bring … Continue reading

The Plight of Burma – Part 2

Burma is a country in trouble. The economy isn’t good, the government is new, and it is under sanctions by many countries for human rights violations. To add to all that, many of the countries soldiers are children. Although Burma is a country trying desperately to clean up its act, problems remain. Child Soldiers International, a non-profit United Kingdom organization, is reporting that both military and civilian “brokers” search for children on the streets. When they find ones that can have their papers forged to show they are 18, they make these vulnerable children soldiers. How do you leave the … Continue reading

It Gets Better

I am one that was born to read bumper stickers. Nothing is more frustrating than to see an interesting bumper sticker that I can’t read. The other day, I saw one on the car in front of me that simply said “itgetsbetter.org.” I was hoping I’d be able to remember that address to look it up when I got home. It has been almost a year since Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi committed suicide by jumping from the George Washington Bridge after learning his roommate had secretly set up a web cam to broadcast his sexual encounter with another man. I … Continue reading

Pop Culture Round Up – January 31, 2011

We have almost made it through the first month of the year and so how much has happened. Charlie Sheen is in rehab, but David Arquette just came out, of rehab that is. And Lindsay Lohan – where is she? As it stands right now, Lindsay is both out of rehab and jail for right now. However, she has another court hearing on February 25th, so anything can happen. But, you may be glad to know that TMZ is reporting that Lindsay is glad Charlie has gone to rehab because she is worried about him. Worried about him? Wow, what … Continue reading

Is your hair worth one million dollars? Believe it or not, it is possible to get an insurance policy that is specifically in regards to your hair, or whatever body part you happen to feel is especially valuable. Whenever a celebrity gets this kind of insurance policy, it is sure to make headlines. The same is true when athletes do it, especially if the body part they are insuring happens to be their hair. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner made an impact on baseball. The 80-year-old owner died of a massive heart attack today at his Tampa home.
