Leslie Nielsen Dead at 84

Actor Leslie Nielsen has died of complications from pneumonia today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was 84. Just the other day, my family and I were watching the movie Airplane! I love that movie. Anyone who has seen it can’t forget some of Nielsen’s classic lines – “I just want to wish you both good luck, we’re all counting on you…” “You can tell me. I’m a doctor,” and my favorite “I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.” It took a long time before I realized Leslie Nielsen had once been a dramatic actor and not always the funny … Continue reading

Scary Places: RMS Queen Mary

While thinking about scary places, I remembered the RMS Queen Mary. When I think of the word “ocean liner,” usually something along the lines of the Love Boat comes to mind. But apparently, there are some disturbing happenings going on in the Queen Mary. The RMS Queen Mary sailed the North Atlantic for 31 years (1936 until 1967). Like the RMS Queen Elizabeth, her running mate, the Queen Mary helped transport troops during World War II. According to her publicist, the 39-year-old actress is due in March 2008 and is “thrilled beyond words.” DEATH On a much sadder note actress Miyoshi Umeki, who … Continue reading

Where Are They Now—Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld used to be a regular member of my household—-in my pre-mom days. Like millions of others, I too was a rabid “Seinfeld” fan, and even when the NBC hit comedy ended in 1998 I remained loyal by watching the show in syndication. Since then I got married, gave birth and life changed—my “Seinfeld” days are now officially over. Coincidentally, in the days since his award-winning sitcom went off the air Seinfeld too has gone from top paying actor to husband and dad. The comedian still does standup, but spends most of his time as husband to wife Jessica … Continue reading
