Pop Culture Roundup – January 31, 2010

As I sit here watching the Grammys, I thought I should blog about a few pop culture happenings that occurred this week. Actor Rip Torn had a bad week as he was arrested for entering a closed bank in Connecticut with a loaded revolver. Police in Salisbury, Conn., where Torn lives, said the actor was highly intoxicated when they arrived, responding to the alarm he set off. The 78 year old, who has recently appeared on NBC’s “30 Rock,” was being held on a $100,000 bond. Some might say it was a worse week for author J.D. Salinger, as he … Continue reading

Mario Lopez is Single Again

They said it wouldn’t last… and I agreed. Sources close to Mario Lopez and his flexible former “Dancing with the Stars” pro partner Karina Smirnoff confirm that the dark-haired duo have called it quits. The couple first sparked rumors of a romance when they were partnered during the popular dance competition’s third season. Interestingly, the pair never once publicly acknowledged that they were dating despite being photographed canoodling at dozens of celebrity events. Now it appears Smirnoff is waltzing out of Lopez’s life… and his Los Angeles home—-the place she has reportedly been living for more than a year now. … Continue reading

Karina Hooking Up with Another Mario and When Idol Parents Attack

Michele blogged earlier about Karina, Mario, and Mario, but is Karina trying to take one Mario out of the equation? It must be all the sexy dancing or something because romance rumors seem to swirl around the “Dancing with the Stars” set and this week is no exception. There are rumors now that Karina Smirnoff might be trading in Mario Lopez for her current partner, R&B singer Mario. Karina and Mario Lopez have been a couple every since Mario finished in second place on Season 3. But the New York Post is reporting that in February, Karina and singer Mario … Continue reading

New Homes For Miss America and Simpson Book

Move over “Trading Spaces” and “A Baby Story” you’ve got a new neighbor… Miss America. Five months after getting the boot from Country Music Television, the beauty competition has found a new home on TLC. Network execs announced that it would air a reality show about Miss America, culminating with the finals on January 26, 2008 in Las Vegas. (The network also agreed to air the pageant for two years after that.) It’s hard to believe that the Miss America pageant, which once was a staple of life in Atlantic City and must-see TV in primetime has struggled to find … Continue reading

Mario Lopez Lands the Miss America Gig

I never paid that much attention to Mario Lopez until I watched “Dancing with the Stars” last season. I was a little too old to have grown up with “Saved by the Bell” and really did not notice anything else he had done. But, I became a fan after seeing him and partner Karina go to the Dancing finals. Now, Mario has landed another job. He told the Associated Press today that he would be the new host of the Miss America pageant. The pageant will be held on January 29th live from the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las … Continue reading
