“Saturday Night Live” Skit + New York Governor = Controversy

Millions of viewers thought Saturday Night Live’s recent comedy sketch parodying New York Governor David Paterson was hilariously funny. Paterson… not so much. “Paterson in a BLIND Rage Over SNL Skit” screamed the headline in one New York paper. Apparently, the visually impaired governor was not laughing after SNL aired a bit that mocked his blindness. In fact Paterson made his opinion of the late-night comedy’s skit abundantly clear to reporters shortly after the show aired. “I can take a joke,” Paterson told the Daily News, but added, “only 37% of disabled people are working and I’m afraid that that … Continue reading

T-minus 24 hours. Television news organizations have been preparing for Election Day 2008 with about as much anticipation as the politicians themselves. The event is like the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the Academy Awards all wrapped up in one broadcast. Several networks just announced plans to unveil major new tech toys to get poll results to the public as soon as possible. Tomorrow you will be introduced to a “magic wall,” a “launchpad” and watch as NBC and ABC turn two New York City landmarks – Rockefeller Center and Times Square – into virtual TV studios. Here’s what else … Continue reading

I suppose if Nancy Kerrigan can do it, why not Michael Phelps? The king of the pool will be stepping into unchartered waters when he hosts the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on September 13th. How Do You Pronounce It?

Is it “Bay-jing,” “Bay-zhing” or “Bay-zheeng”? The 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China are rapidly coming to a close and I have yet to view a day of coverage where broadcasters are on the same page when it comes to pronouncing the host city’s name. Have you noticed this too? Brian Williams spent more than a week anchoring NBC’s “Nightly News” from a place he calls “Bay-jing.” The veteran news anchor makes a concerted effort to place the emphasis on the second syllable and he sounds as though he knows what he is doing. However, lead primetime Olympic anchor … Continue reading

If you watched even a single minute of Tim Russert’s emotional public memorial, which was broadcast live on MSNBC last month, then the announcement NBC brass just made regarding the late “Meet the Press” host’s son might not surprise you. Watching T.V. While Breastfeeding

This is a topic that came straight out of the forums. One of our family members (purelegance) mentioned that she got a newsletter from the Baby Center and their answer to this question surprised her. Each person that answered the question said in no uncertain terms, that you should not watch television while nursing your baby. The reasons sited were various but to sum it up: you’re depriving yourself and baby of bonding time, you should be interacting with your baby and essentially television is an unneeded distraction. Judging by the women’s responses from Families.com, it seems this answer is … Continue reading
