Don’t Let the Cold Weather Stop You

Although some people enjoy the outdoors even when it’s cold, others (such as me) don’t. I live in Wisconsin, so the winds can be biting and the temperatures can be downright intolerable. This is often when fitness can take a backseat. We let the colder months deter us from continuing a fit lifestyle. So we have to purpose and make a plan for what we can do during the next several months. If you own a treadmill, try dusting it off. Then move it to a place where you are more likely to use it. Don’t want to miss your … Continue reading

Food, Favors and Decorations to Complete Your Family Election Party

My last blog outlined invitations and possible activities for an Election Day (or Night) Party. This blog will help you prepare for the party. Favors/Name Tags Make name tags/favors in which the name is on a white circle of cardstock. Folded loops of ribbon be glued to the back of the cardstock around the edges of the circle. Leave two ribbons (hanging down. This resembles the rosette ribbons worn by members of political parties in England (hence the term, “showing your colors”). If it’s just a family party, rather than names you could make ribbons of different countries and write … Continue reading

“Dancing with the Stars” Curse Continues

Looks like MTV is not the only cursed network around. Just ask Olympic beach volleyball champ and current “DWTS” contestant Misty May-Treanor. The gold medal athlete is recovering from a nasty spill that sent her to the hospital Friday afternoon. According to a statement released by ABC, the muscular looker was practicing her dance routine with pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy when she sustained an injury that required hospitalization. Network execs wouldn’t elaborate on the nature of May-Treanor’s injury, though they did deny that she broke her ankle. The 31-year-old Olympic gold medallist has made it no secret that dancing in … Continue reading

California under Flood Watch After Kardashian Gets the Boot from “Dancing”

Man, do I feel sorry for Corky Ballas. His freshman season on “Dancing with the Stars” and he gets stuck with Cloris Leachman. The octogenarian runs her mouth more than she does her feet and she lives to dance another week. Incredible. After last night’s show, Leachman admitted that she had a “bad feeling” as she stood next to fellow celeb dancer Kim Kardashian and her pro partner reigning “DWTS” champ Mark Ballas (Corky’s son) under the glaring red, bottom two “elimination” lights. But, alas, it was Kardashian’s famous butt that got the boot and Leachman, the show’s oldest-ever competitor, … Continue reading

Let the Dancing Begin!

Finally! After a long summer my toe-tapping, tutu wearing, twirling toddler (okay, she’s more preschooler than toddler) will once again get to shimmy and shake with the best of them. ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” kicks off its seventh season next month and now we know, which celebs will be waltzing their way to that hideous mirror ball trophy. Take a look: Toni Braxton–The 41-year-old Grammy Award-winner has been paired with season one “DWTS” champ Alec Mazo. Lance Bass– The 29-year-old former ‘N SYNC singer will be two-stepping with Lacey Schwimmer a new addition to DWTS. (You might … Continue reading

Playing the “Dancing with the Stars” Guessing Game

Which celebrities will be shimming and shaking their way to the shiny mirror ball trophy on the upcoming season of ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars?” Michael Jordan, Dan Quayle, Anderson Cooper, and Rachael Ray’s names have been thrown around, but big wigs at ABC will only say that the official cast will be revealed on August 25th and the dance competition will premiere on September 22nd. So let the guessing game begin. Yesterday several publications named singer Toni Braxton as one of the contestants for the seventh season of the reality TV show. In Touch magazine reports that … Continue reading

An Interview with Beth Terrell about Her Dancing Puppy, Luca

People who are active with their pets intrigue me. And when I say active, I mean doing things like doing agility training or enrolling in therapy dog programs. Back in February, I participated on a panel with some fellow Middle Tennessee Sister in Crime authors, one of whom was Beth Terrell. We got to talking about things outside of writing, and she told me about how much fun she’d been having with her little puppy that she got about a year ago. Specifically, she was raving about the puppy dancing classes they’d been taking. I thought that’d make a fun … Continue reading

“Dancing with the Stars” Update: Julianne the Virgin and Mario Hits Broadway

Despite her having not one, but two, disco ball trophies and making the rounds on just about every talk show known to man “Dancing with the Stars’” resident hottie Julianne Hough adamantly denies that she has “gone Hollywood.” In fact, in a recent interview with CosmoGIRL! the 19-year-old dancer says she is committed to remaining a virgin until she is married (though, she does admit to being tempted by the excess of Tinseltown—see: actor Kevin Connolly). “I think [the choice] to have sex before marriage is an individual one, but if you’re just with one person, it’s only for one … Continue reading

Celebs Look Ahead: Who’s “Dancing” Next and K-Fed’s New Gig

I give him until at least week two before he gets the boot. Then again, he could walk away with that tacky disco ball trophy and the title… I’m talking about Sin City icon Wayne Newton. We know he can sing, but can he dance? We’ll find out next month when the new season of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres on ABC. According to sources close to the televised dance competition, Newton along with several other media darlings will be lacing up their dancing shoes to shimmy, shake, and slide for all of the nation to see beginning September 24th. … Continue reading

Hoop Dancing – It’s Not Just for Kids Anymore

Do you hula hoop? When my daughter got a hula hoop a year ago, she asked me to help her learn how to hula hoop and you know what? It’s not quite like riding a bike – it was hard to learn how to do it years ago and it was harder now when I thought I knew what I was doing. Hula hoops are making a resounding come back in the fitness world and it’s a trend called hoop dancing. The hula hoop is involved, but it’s not the hula you recall instead it’s a series of aerobic classes … Continue reading
