Kevin Federline---"Great Dad?"

In what altered universe do Kevin Federline and the words "great father" go hand-in-hand? Apparently, in the same one where his estranged wife goes mad, shaves off all her hair, gets tattooed, and attacks photographers' cars with golf umbrellas.

Alas, it's true. During a popular L.A.-based morning radio show, the words "great father" were used by a DJ to describe K-Fed in the days since Spears checked into rehab. Shockingly, the DJ wasn't joking. The reference to K-Fed was made last week after news agencies reported that he drove to the Malibu rehab center where Spears is being treated. Federline reportedly visited with the pop princess for about an hour. He then returned the next day with the couple's two children Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden, 5 months.

Shortly after the visit a source close to the situation told PEOPLE magazine: "The kids are Kevin's number one priority and they always have been. He's so stressed out right now. He only wants the best for Britney and the kids."

The source added that Federline has "been involved with her stay there." (Perhaps, a reference to the ultimatum he reportedly gave Spears regarding her ongoing "irrational behavior" and custody of their children.) In addition, TV's "Extra" recently reported that Federline agreed to take care of the children with the assistance of Spears's mother while Britney is in rehab.

The fact that Federline is being hailed by anyone in the media, as a "great father" is strange in and of itself, given the fact that prior to getting the boot from Spears he was being described (at best) as an "absentee father." His reported habit of drinking and smoking in front of his children certainly didn't score him points either. Then---BAM---suddenly he's a "great father."

But wait, there's more. If that tidbit hasn't left you reeling, this might.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, Britney's childhood friend and first husband, Jason Alexander (the pair wed in Las Vegas in 2004, and their marriage was annulled 55 hours later) told reporters that Federline is "a good dude." Then added, "I know he takes care of those kids."

Stop the world! Jason Alexander? Isn't he the same guy who last November called Federline "an idiot," and then went on to say, "The only thing he (Federline) has done since they've been married is spend money." Yeah, same guy.

Apparently, since seeing Brit's meltdown Alexander has had a change of heart when it comes to K-Feddy. The 25-year-old reportedly told PEOPLE he now thinks Spears's estranged husband "just got caught up and manipulated." He continued by saying (now brace yourself): "Maybe getting Kevin out of her life wasn't the best thing for her."

Did I mention the words altered universe?

I don't know that I would call Federline a great parent, but he's certainly looking good compared to Britney lately :-(

Isn't K-fed the same guy who got another woman pregnant and then ran off to marry Britney? Hello!

Yes, and this just in... K-Fed reportedly took the kids to Vegas this weekend but reportedly didn't go out to party until "after he tucked the kids into bed." ;) Now that's a great dad! Thanks for the comments ladies.
