Go Po! “Kung Fu Panda” fans (and their parents) have reason to celebrate today. Nickelodeon is adding the high-flying, black-and-white bear to its afternoon line-up. The kids’ cable channel just announced that it plans to premiere “Kung Fu Panda: The Series” later this year. The show will be based on Po, the frisky martial arts panda, who starred in the hit 2008 animated film, “Kung Fu Panda.” Nickelodeon execs say the series’ 26 episodes will be animated in the same computer-generated process as the big-screen version. Who knew Donald Trump was a softie? The man whose acerbic comments made him Rosie O’Donnell’s No. 1 enemy is Ed McMahon’s new best friend. Or at least his landlord. The real estate mogul announced that he just shelled out more than $3 million to save Johnny Carson’s sidekick’s Beverly Hills mansion from foreclosure. Country Music Star Makes Television History

When Dwight Yoakam appears on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” later this week he will make TV history. This Thursday will mark the country music superstar’s 24th appearance on NBC’s hit late-night talk show. Yoakam’s string of appearances breaks the record for most musical performances by any artist. Fans of Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien will get to start 2008 with fresh laughs from their favorite late-night comedians after all. Executives at NBC just announced that both the “Tonight” show and “Late Night” will return to TV with new episodes beginning January 2nd, almost exactly two months to the day after the Hollywood writers strike sent them into repeats. Writers Strike Day 6—-Let the Firings Begin

Day 6 of the Writers Guild strike started with 102 members of “The Office” being fired. The hit NBC comedy shut down this week, and as a result, more than 100 below the line employees from grips and camera assistants to hairstylists and set dressers were given pink slips. When I was growing up, I loved to watch “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.” But, if you really wanted to watch something edgy, you tuned into “The Tomorrow Show” with Tom Snyder. Snyder, a last night television pioneer, died yesterday from complications due to leukemia. He was 71 years old. Snyder hosted “The Tomorrow Show” from 1973 until 1981.
