Green Musicians – Sting – Part 2

Growing up, The Police were one of my favorite bands. I think even as a teen, I picked up on their political and social messages. Yesterday, I was blogging about the activism of The Police’s lead singer Sting. In 1989, Along with his wife Trudie Styler and Kayapo Indian leader Raoni Metuktire, Sting founded the Rainforest Foundation Fund to help save the rainforests as well as the people who live in them. Each year, the charity holds a benefit concert at Carnegie Hall. Because of his efforts, a Columbian tree frog was named after him (Dendropsophus stingi). In October 1991, … Continue reading

Ike Turner Dead at 67

One of my earliest memories of television was seeing the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. I remember them singing “Proud Mary.” It amazed me how slowly the song started out with Ike’s deep baritone voice, then switched to a quick tempo with Tina and the back up singers lively dancing. To this day, I love that song, so it sadden me a bit to hear that Ike Turner died today at his home in San Diego today the age of 67. Of course, I was a child when I fell in love with “Proud Mary” and had no idea of … Continue reading

Ertegun was the co-founder of Atlantic Records (along with Herb Abramson) who passed away last year. I only have one problem with this. The “reunion” of Led Zeppelin doesn’t include all the original members. The original members of the band, formed in 1968, were Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. I am not that big a Led Zeppelin fan, but to me, the … Continue reading

INXS Pays Tribute to Former Lead Singer

I don’t know if you remember when INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence died, but I do. I loved INXS – they were one of my favorite bands of the 80s. And I thought Michael Hutchence was so sexy. He just had that young Jim Morrison thing going on. But around the mid 90s, the band stopped having radio hits. I mean after all, music had changed. The pop bands of the 80s were out and everyone was into grunge. To add to the fact that his band had fallen a bit from popularity, Michael Hutchence was having problems at home … Continue reading
