Immortalized in Song

I was sitting here today watching VH1’s Rockfest. I had tons of other things to do, but I figured I needed a break. One of the first videos I saw was “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. What a beautiful love song by a band that typically sang about…well, not so beautiful things. I began thinking about hit songs written about women. You may not know it, but “Sweet Child O’ Mine” was written about Axl Rose’s then girlfriend Erin Everly. Erin was the daughter of Everly Brother Don and niece of Everly Brother Phil. As lovely as … Continue reading

Music News: April 3, 2009

Quite a few things going on in the music world today. Rapper Coolio has pleaded not guilty to one felony drug charge and misdemeanor counts of battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 10 after screeners at the Los Angeles International Airport reportedly found drugs in his luggage. The battery charge was issued when Coolio grabbed the arm of a TSA official who was trying to search his luggage. If convicted, Coolio could face up to three years in prison. Right now, he is out on $10,000 bail and awaiting his next court hearing, which is … Continue reading

Want to Know How to Decrease Stress?

Want to know how to ease stress in your life and that of your spouse? Scientists have come up with the answer – to kiss stress goodbye, literally. Displays of affection ease stress levels. That’s the conclusion that scientists have come to, after conducting a week long study with a number of mostly married couples. The act of kissing, ‘unleashes chemicals that ease stress hormones in both sexes.’ Scientists dicovered that the couples that engaged in more physical contact, ranging from holding hands to sexual intercourse, had lower levels of cortisol, in their saliva. Cortisol is often referred to as … Continue reading

Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses Calls Out Dr. Pepper

I was surprised that the new Guns N’ Roses CD Chinese Democracy came out before I died of old age. You would think Axl Rose, the only remaining member of the original Guns N’ Roses, would be in a good place right now. After working on “Chinese Democracy” for 14 years, Rose seems to have done the impossible – garnered decent reviews on an album whose expectations were naturally overblown. But, happy he is not. The guys at Dr. Pepper apparently thought they would get in on the hoopla of the release by issuing a statement that “if” Chinese Democracy … Continue reading

Dr. Pepper Makes Good on Its Chinese Democracy Promise

It’s not that everyone hasn’t has faith that Guns N’ Roses leader Axl Rose would eventually produce his long promised Chinese Democracy album. Well, okay, maybe it was. Axl, the lone survivor of the original Guns N’ Roses band, has been working on Chinese Democracy since 1994. You read that right – he’s been working on this album for thirteen years. Since then, the band has gone through many different lineups, with Axl remaining the only constant. The whole Chinese Democracy thing has become a bit of joke in the rock world if not the entire world. Proof positive came … Continue reading

Celebrities Doing Time: Adler, Kardashian, and Doherty

There are quite a few celebrities looking at doing time this week. Let’s catch up: Steven Adler – Former drummer for Guns N’ Roses If you know Steven Adler’s history, it will probably come as no surprise, but he was arrested earlier this morning on drug charges in Los Angeles. Adler was actually fired from the band Guns N’ Roses at the height of its success back in 1989 for his drug addition. Apparently, learning nothing from losing his meal ticket, Adler continued to do drugs. He suffered a stroke after he injected a speedball in 1996 and still has … Continue reading

A Cool Treat for a Hot Celeb

Forget about the life-size statutes, the park benches with engraved plaques and the namesake streets, avenues and boulevards. The one true way you can tell if you have arrived in Hollywood is when you get your own ice cream flavor. I certainly would consider it one of life’s highest honors. Jerry Garcia, Dave Matthews and Phish are among the lucky musicians who have gained the prestigious honor from Ben & Jerry’s and now legendary rocker Sir Elton John is being immortalized in frozen sugar and cream as well. This Friday you’ll get your first chance to dig into “Goodbye Yellow … Continue reading

Michael Buble: A Modern Day Sinatra?

Singing classic songs is really hot today. Rod Stewart, that little sex kitten from the 70s, has reinvented himself by covering the Great American Songbook Collection and has extended his musical career not only into a different direction, but also into its fifth decade. Even former balladeer Michael Bolton has realized there is new money in old songs, releasing his Bolton Swings Sinatra album in 2006. Sinatra was almost bigger than life – both in person and in the recording studio, so his act is hard to live up to. While Rod and Michael both do respectable jobs, there is … Continue reading

Family Affair on NBC

You know what they say about sisters who work together… The family ties that bind Hollywood’s famous Arquette family will get even tighter next month. That’s when Rosanna Arquette will guest star on sister Patricia’s show “Medium.” The NBC hit series will be getting a double shot of the Arquette’s on April 7th. Show producers say the 48-year-old actress will take on the role of “a calculating ‘cougar’ who enjoys the challenges of bedding younger men.” Rosanna’s character reportedly appears in the dreams of crime-fighting psychic Allison Dubois (played by Patricia) “when her sexual escapades turn deadly,” according to network … Continue reading
