In Memoriam 2011 – Part 1

Each year, we lose beloved stars, athletes, authors, and pop culture figures and 2011 was no exception. Here’s a few of those that died in 2011: January 2011 If you are a Rocky Horror Picture Show fan, you no doubt remember the line “Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet” from Science Fiction/Double Feature, the opening ode to great sci-fi films of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Francis, who also was the star of the television show “Honey West” died on January 3 at age 80 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Gerry Rafferty made his name with hits such as “Baker … Continue reading

Infamous Hotel Rooms – Part 4

This is my final blog about infamous hotel rooms – rooms in which something so legendary happened, the people often ask for this specific room. Actually, a few of the rooms I will mention in this blog are a little less notorious and more just places fans love to visit. Room 203 – Ramada Inn Union Square, San Francisco, CA It was in room 203 that jazz singer Billie Holiday was busted by the police for possession of opium in January 1949. She was acquitted later that year when her lawyer convinced the jury she had been framed. There is … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 3

This is my final installment of iconic sex symbols. I’ve already covered many of the obvious – Mel Gibson, Elvis, Warren Beatty, Marlon Brando, and Paul Newman. Here are a few more on my list: James Dean You know, when I was younger, I had a really hard time seeing Dean as sexy. However, as I age, I begin to get it. He is an iconic sex symbol truly frozen in time, as he died at the young age of 24, while still young and handsome. Would he have aged well? We will never know, but the whole package of … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 2

The other day, I blogged about three actors that were so sexy in their time – Mel Gibson, Warren Beatty, and Paul Newman. But, there are still plenty more to talk about! Elvis Presley I could just write 50 blogs about Elvis and why a young Elvis was so, so sexy. Yes, like many that grew up in the show biz spotlight, Elvis seemed to have had some personality flaws. But, I dare you to find one single physical fault with Elvis of the 50s or even 60s. When Elvis first hit the scene, it was he who originally drove … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 1

The other day at 6:00 a.m. (I had to wake hubby up for work), I started watching the The Bounty. That is the recount of the HMS Bounty, a British ship that was overthrown by Fletcher Christian. Normally, when I turn the television on at 6:00 a.m., I immediately go back to sleep, but a young Mel Gibson is good enough reason to stay awake! That started me to thinking about iconic sex symbols – the men whose good looks will forever be frozen in time. Here are the ones I think were extremely hot in their heyday. Some died … Continue reading

Celebrities vs. the Canadian Seal Hunt

Earlier this month, I blogged about Canada and its seal hunting season. The annual Canadian seal hunt is the largest in the world and the government tries to convince people it is in the best interest of the country, but it isn’t popular with everyone. In my blog, I mentioned several organizations that are against the seal hunting season. Of course, PETA and the Humane Society are among those organizations, but Sea Shepherd, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Harp Seals and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) are also involved. There have also been many celebrities … Continue reading

Dennis Hopper Dies at 74

If you have seen a picture of Dennis Hopper lately, you knew his death was inevitable and today, the inevitable took one of Hollywood’s perennial bad boys. Dennis Hopper died of prostate cancer at the age of 74. Hopper’s last public appearance was when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 26 of this year. Hopper saw something most of today’s actors can only hope for – a career that spanned almost six decades. He did television and he did the big screen. He was in westerns, action films, and indies. He played villains, lost … Continue reading

Mel Gibson Steps Out with Oksana Grigorieva

The ink of the legal papers is not even dry, but Mel Gibson was seen with girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva at the Los Angeles premiere of X-Man Origins: Wolverine. It seems as if a potential $500 million dollar divorce settlement hasn’t deterred Mel from seeing his Russian singer. Photos show the two holding hands as they hurried into Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for the premiere. The producer’s of the film, Richard and Lauren Donner, as well as star Hugh Jackman invited Gibson to the premiere. Jackman has said that Gibson’s Mad Max character inspired his Wolverine character. Grigorieva is signed to Gibson’s … Continue reading

Strange Celebrity Phobias

I was listening to a recent podcast of one of my favorite NPR shows, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me. On this particular broadcast, their guest was Philippe Petit. If you don’t know who Philippe Petit is, you obviously didn’t read my review of the 81st Annual Academy Awards. Philippe Petit was the guy that walked on a high wire (illegally of course) stretched between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. A film about his feat, Man on Wire, won an Oscar for Best Documentary at the awards ceremony this year. Anyhow, I found it funny when the … Continue reading

When You Love Someone

When you love someone it doesn’t matter what you do. Just being together is enough. Saturday was one of those together days and evenings for Mick and me. While the washing was in the machine, immediately after breakfast we went to the local markets where we bought fresh fruit from the orchard and those vegetables, Mick hasn’t got ready in our own garden, we bought fresh from the market garden. We also found a Christmas gift at one of the stalls and then Mick bought me a silver bracelet for no reason except that I admired it. He’s a sweetie … Continue reading
