How You Can Star In A Commercial For Dove

Have you ever dreamed of starring in a commercial for your favorite beauty product. No, I'm not talking about Calgon (although I'm sure many of us stay-or-work-at-home-moms have starred in our own versions of that famous commercial... on a weekly basis). I'm talking about a once in a lifetime opportunity to create your own ad for the makers of Dove beauty products.

You'll recall that the company made headlines a couple of years ago when it began using "real women" (no professional models or actors) in a line of ads promoting their products. The company is now known for "embracing real women in its advertising" and has been hailed by the likes of Oprah and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. So what does this mean for you?

The makers of Dove are sponsoring a Dove Cream Oil Body Wash Ad Contest. Basically, they are inviting women to create their own 30 second commercial to launch a new product called Dove Cream Oil Body Wash Collection. The ad that best captures the essence of the new products and the brand's "real beauty" philosophy will premiere during a commercial break on the 79th Annual Academy Awards on February 25, 2007.

You can get complete contest details at www.dovecreamoil.com. In addition, you shouldn't count yourself out if you think you don't have the camera skills to create a winning entry. When you visit the Dove site there is a section which features a step-by-step guide and editing tools, along with sample Dove ads to make the project easy for novice and advanced filmmakers.

The contest runs until January 15, 2007 and all entries will be reviewed by an anonymous panel of judges. Winners will be based on originality, content and creativity. Remember the judges are looking for someone who can capture the essence of "real beauty," which is not to say that beauty is limited to outward appearances.

I have a friend who would be perfect for the commercial. She is creative, has loads of personality and is great in front of and behind the camera. If she makes it as a finalist (Dove will pick three finalists) she will receive an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles the weekend of the 79th Annual Academy Awards plus tickets to a private viewing party. Who knows... perhaps, she consider taking me with her.
