Exercise Boosts Your Brain at Any Age!

If you’re worried about your brain’s health, you might want to think about your physical fitness levels. A new study from the Center for Brain Repair and Rehabilitation at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden looked at the link between physical fitness and brain fitness (or, if you want to be technical about it, call it “cognitive function”). Researchers looked at data on more than a million Swedish men born between 1950 and 1976 who enlisted for military service at age 18. Included in those 1.2 million men were more than a quarter of a million siblings — and some … Continue reading

Teaching Your Toddler to Lose Gracefully

Yeah, right! Good luck with that. I know some adults (okay, one in particular) who explode when they miss a single shot at a mini-golf course, so the thought of having a toddler lose gracefully is somewhat of an oxymoron to me. Still, childhood experts say it is very possible for young children to lose a game without having a full-blown meltdown, provided you teach them about winning first. This, of course, opens an entirely different can of worms: When playing a game with your toddler (Candy Land, hopscotch, Memory, etc.) do you let her win all the time, or … Continue reading

Make Your Own Mother’s Day Gifts

Flowers are pretty, cards are nice, and chocolate can do wonders to improve a woman’s mood, but if you really want to impress mom this Mother’s Day, then consider channeling your crafty side to make these homemade gifts: BEADED NAPKIN RINGS Materials: Needle nose pliers 1 package of bracelet memory wire (Found at craft stores or in the craft aisle of larger discount chains—the wire looks like a slinky–1 package typically has 15 coils in it, which yields 12-13 napkin rings) 50 multi-color beads per napkin ring (You could choose two favorite colors and place 25 of each color per … Continue reading

Napping and Memory

I’m a big fan of naps. Back in my radio days, I often kept a weird schedule — up at four in the morning and at work by five-thirty. I’d be done for the day around two in the afternoon… and would often take an afternoon nap to recharge. Even now that I’m keeping a more normal schedule, I often find myself wanting a nap around two in the afternoon. I enjoy curling up with the dogs and taking an afternoon snooze. I don’t necessarily need to do it, but it’s good to relax a bit and wake up with … Continue reading

Change Your Bedding, Change Your Sex Life

Even though the title might suggest such, I’m not about to tell you how to salvage a slumping sex life by simply putting fresh sheets on your bed. (Although, if it has been weeks since you changed them, I could see how that might help.) Rather, I’m talking a makeover for your bed. Courtney, you do realize we’re in the midst of recession, right? Weren’t you the one freaking out about it not too long ago and coming up with ways to survive it without spending a lot of cash? Why, what a great memory you have! Yes, in fact … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for March 31 – April 6

After abandoning poor Lyn for a couple of weeks while I dealt with family issues I’m finally ready to resume my share of Week in Review duties. Here’s a recap of what we dished about last week here in Marriage. Monday, March 31, 2008 Lyn shared some interesting thoughts on Hollywood couples and the fates of their relationships. (Or demise as is the case more commonly and which may be a better word.) Tuesday, April 1 It might have been April Fool’s Day but I was not joking when I wrote about the big changes in my little marriage. Lyn … Continue reading

Dreams about People Other Than Your Mate

Some shows on television often are good indicators of the way that people live and react with one another. Screenwriters spend much time observing how people react in certain situations. Tthey almost gives us a chance to stand on the outside and look in. Once again I am writing in memory of a favorite episode of one of the all time shows that depicts the comical relationship between a husband and a wife, Home Improvement. During the particular episode that I remember, Al’s girlfriend has a dream about Tim. In the dream he is seen as a type of night … Continue reading
