SHOCKING

Not only shocking for a Hollywood couple, but for warring couples in general.

Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn have apparently decided to bury the hatchet and actually work on their marriage instead of throwing it away. Court documents show that the superstar pair just put the brakes on their divorce proceedings.

According to TV's "Extra," a court clerk dismissed the couple's divorce petition at their request earlier this week.

Madonna's ex-husband initially filed for divorce from Wright Penn on December 7, 2007 after 11 years of marriage but his petition was later dismissed. Then, three days later, Wright Penn filed her own divorce papers saying the marriage was irretrievably broken. Their first hearing was scheduled for later this month.

The dismissal came a day after the couple attended an Eddie Vedder concert together at the University of California at Berkeley. While there 47-year-old Penn reportedly went on stage to dedicate a song to his wife.

The couple has two children, Hopper Jack, 14, and Dylan Frances, 17.

NOT SO SHOCKING

Not so shocking because news of this couple's engagement has been swirling since they first started dating.

But now, it's official---Ashlee Simpson and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Fall Out Boy bassist, Pete Wentz are engaged.

The couple announced the good news online yesterday.

"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I, and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged," reads the post.

Twenty-three-year-old Simpson and 28-year-old Wentz began their romance in the fall of 2006 and their public displays of affection have been fodder for the tabloids ever since.

Last year Wentz told PEOPLE magazine that the couple was "past the honeymoon period" and were settling in for the long haul. A short time later rumors started flying that the pair were engaged. And the fact that Simpson was seen wearing a diamond ring on her left hand only fueled speculation that the duo was altar-bound.

No wedding date has been set, but apparently Ashlee isn't letting her big sister Jessica's short-lived marriage at 22 stop her from tying the knot in her early 20s.
