Child Support

It seems there is nothing that gets divorced parents as riled up as child support. Just mention it, men and women alike start foaming at the mouth. He’s a deadbeat, she’s asking for the moon and stars. Parents should support their children, regardless of whether they live in the same home with them or not. Now having said that I must clarify. No one should have to pay so much in alimony and child support that they can no longer support themselves. I remember when a neighbor found out her husband was cheating on her. They had been married for … Continue reading

Just-Wed and Just-Engaged Celebs

I don’t know many people who exchange vows outside during the middle of a snowstorm, but if you are movie mogul Harvey Weinstein not only do you get it done, but you also convince dozens of A-list celebs to join in the festivities. Weinstein exchanged vows with British designer Georgina Chapman at his waterfront Connecticut estate Saturday night before a star-studded crowd that included a very pregnant Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Cameron Diaz, Renee Zellweger, Naomi Watts, Revlon head Ron Perelman, Quentin Tarantino, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter, models Karolina Kurkova and Helena Christensen. The aforementioned celebs braved … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates—Cashing in on Rock ‘n’ Roll Memorabilia

Celebrity auctions intrigue me. Not so much because of the items that are up for sale (though it is interesting to see what celebs consider “safe” to part with), but what I find so astounding is how much some die-hard fans are willing to fork over for an item previously owned by someone they likely have never met. In a previous blog I previewed an auction Christie’s was running featuring rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia from some of the hottest bands of the 1960s and ’70s. Most of the items were non descript and unpretentious, such as used T-shirts, sweaters and … Continue reading

Your Classic Rock T-shirt Could be Worth a Fortune

Come on… admit it… whether it’s in the back of your closet or on the back of your youngest son you’ve got a classic rock and roll T-shirt somewhere in your home. You know the ones blazoned with the Rolling Stones logo or a classic black Pink Floyd tee. If you have an original one, get it off the bottom of your closet because those vintage frocks are worth more than you might realize. A collection of 30 vintage rock and roll T-shirts is being sold to the highest bidder this month at Christie’s auction house in New York where … Continue reading

Famous Entertainment Reporter Dies

Did you watch “Live With Regis and Kelly” today? If you did, you may have heard the sad (and shocking) news that the show’s longtime entertainment reporter Claudia Cohen died of cancer last Friday. Frankly, I was floored. Decades ago when I worked at the television station that aired the show I watched it religiously. Subsequently, I got used to seeing Cohen on the air and enjoyed the banter she shared with Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, and more recently, Kelly Ripa. So when Regis announced that Cohen died Friday of cancer I was stunned. For those of you unfamiliar … Continue reading

The Ultimate Celebrity Yard Sale

I love a good yard sale and apparently, I missed THE yard sale of all yard sales last weekend. It was held at a $3.5 million dollar Montclair, New Jersey home where Michael Strahan, the New York Giants defensive end, used to live. Was Michael just trying to get rid of a few extra things? Maybe Michael was trying to earn a little extra money to help supplement that $20+ salary the Giants are paying him? Nope, turns out it is just another case of “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” I wonder if William Congreve, who wrote … Continue reading

Actress Sued For Wearing The Wrong Watch

There was a time in my life when I felt naked without my watch. I was a TV reporter and deadlines ruled my life. Then I had a baby, and my watch and I took an extended vacation from each other. These days I spend more days looking for my watch than wearing it, which is why this next story about an Oscar-winning actress and her multiple timepieces caught my eye. According to news reports, Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil is suing actress Charlize Theron for wearing a Christian Dior timepiece when she was supposed to wear only Weil watches. The … Continue reading

How Embarrassing!

There are a lot of people who are glad they aren’t in Governor Kathleen Blanco’s shoes right now. Not because the Louisiana politician continues to face withering criticism for her response to Hurricane Katrina, rather it has more to do with a recent incident, which involved dining with the embattled governor. Last week at a fundraising auction hosted by a group of business leaders a chance to share a meal with Blanco fetched a winning bid of $1. That’s right—a single dollar. Days later the president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, in northeastern Louisiana, reportedly called Blanco’s office to … Continue reading

Auction Items Go For Big Bucks

Throughout the year, Michele and I have both blogged about several celebrity auctions. It just amazes me that people love to purchase things celebrities have owned. It does not seem to matter if it is a car, clothing, or something as simple as an ink pen, if someone popular enough owned it, chances are, someone out there wants to buy it! The newest big auction ticket item was the little black dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1961 hit Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In case you have not noticed, Audrey Hepburn, like Chanel suits, never seems to go out of style. … Continue reading

A Unique Auction

Libby and I have written a number of blogs on auctions. They seem to be in the news more and more these days. It has almost gotten to the point where not a day goes by that some celebrity isn’t making headlines for putting his or her personal items on the block. But, today’s auction blog is a bit different. It isn’t about stars making money from selling diamond rings or gowns worn to the Academy Awards; rather this auction blog is dedicated to the sale of far less glamorous items–Web addresses. Hundreds of Internet domain names were recently up … Continue reading
