Disney Plans Star Wars Character Spin-Offs

Boba Fett and the man who played him, Jeremy Bulloch The biggest Disney movie news of the past week was so big it needed its own post: Disney has announced that they’re planning character-based “Star Wars” spin-offs.  That means they’re looking to make movies that expand the stories of fan favorites like Yoda, Han Solo, and Boba Fett. If you’re wondering about the sequel trilogy, know that it’s still on track.  Episode 7 might not make it out in 2015 as planned, now that the ever-busy J.J. Abrams is helming, but these character pieces aren’t meant to replace Episodes 7-9.  … Continue reading

Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Now Owns Star Wars

This is probably the hugest and craziest Disney news story I’ve ever heard, and possibly ever will, I can’t think of anything bigger: this week, Walt Disney Company announced that it is buying Lucasfilm for about $4 billion dollars. That’s right: Disney will own Star Wars. The news is entirely shocking. In the past year George Lucas has announced his intention to retire from film making, or at least big-budget film making, instead focusing on smaller projects. But no one expected him to sell his company (Lucas is the sole owner), and certainly not to Disney. When one thinks about … Continue reading

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart Want a Baby and Tyra Banks Wants Julia Roberts

They haven’t officially tied the knot yet, but Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart are already in the process of expanding their family. According to reports, the celebrity couple is adopting a little girl. In addition, Ford reportedly has taken steps to adopt Flockhart’s eight-year-old son Liam as well. The “Indiana Jones” star proposed to the former “Ally McBeal” actress on Valentine’s Day, and now, sources say the pair is ready to add to their family after seven years together. Star magazine is reporting that Ford will officially become Liam’s dad by this summer, and soon after the family will welcome … Continue reading

Don’t Let MTV’s “Jersey Shore” Stop You From Visiting the Jersey Shore

I used to spend summers in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. No joke. Each year my family would leave the sunny shores of Hilo, Hawaii, and fly 5000 miles to Newark, New Jersey, to visit my parental grandparents, 44 aunts and uncles, 60 plus cousins, and the rest of my dad’s humongous family. During week two of our annual trips we’d load up the clan and head down to the shore. It’s where I visited my first water park (Rainbow Rapids) and witnessed my first ever seaweed-entangled hypodermic needle floating in the white wash near Point Pleasant Beach. Ah, the memories. … Continue reading

Number of Parents Increasing, But Not Marriages

With all the hoopla surrounding the NCAA basketball tournament, Bruce Willis’ new marriage, and Lance Armstrong’s broken collarbone, you may have missed this bit of breaking news today: A record number of babies were born in the United States in 2007… and nearly half were welcomed by unmarried parents. Sarcasm aside (regarding the first part of the last sentence), this fact is legitimate. According to a new federal study, more babies were born in the United States in 2007 than any other year in the nation’s history – and a wedding ring made little difference in the matter. The new … Continue reading

David Letterman and Danica McKellar Get Married, but Not to Each Other

There must be something crazy going on in the air of Celebrityville because couples are getting married left and right. There was singer Natasha Bedingfield and Matthew Robinson, who tied the knot on Saturday, as did actor Bruce Willis and his model girlfriend of a year, Emma Herning. Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are still celebrating their recent nuptials. Then of course, there was the engagement announcement (finally!) of Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart. Now, another shocking marriage has occurred – David Letterman. Oh sure, David had been married once before (to Michelle Cook, from 1969 to 1977) and had … Continue reading

Psychological Effects of Trying to Stay Young

The media is obsessed with the way stars look as they age and they delight in printing unflattering shots of a time-ravaged Madonna or a paunchy Harrison Ford caught unawares on a remote beach. As our society often looks to the stars, literally, as role models, many of us try to emulate their looks, including the stars increasing pursuit of youth. But how emotionally healthy is it for us to relentlessly chase the fountain of youth? The milestone age of 40 is a big one for most of us. It reminds us that we are no longer truly young, and … Continue reading

More Expensive Hollywood Divorces

In a previous blog I discussed the $2 million payout supermodel Christie Brinkley has been mandated to hand over to her cheating ex-husband Peter Cook. While $2 million may sound a lot to the average person, stats show it’s peanuts compared to what other Hollywood spouses get when they split from their celebrity partners. Typically, the bigger the star, the greater the payout. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the following star couples who landed in divorce court. The payouts the respective spouses were awarded are more than most of us will earn in a lifetime. Harrison Ford vs. … Continue reading

From May through mid-August, Hollywood will roll out new movie after new movie with the hopes that a few will make history by drawing records crowds. So which flick could be the next summer blockbuster? Here’s a look at the contenders: MAY 2: “Iron Man.” Move over Spidey, Robert Downey Jr. is coming to a theater near you as “Iron Man.” Downey plays a wealthy inventor who lacks superpowers but does have a high-tech suit of armor. … Continue reading

The El Dorado Adventure – Lloyd Alexander

As you’ll recall from the first book in the “Vesper Holly Adventures,” Vesper is a seventeen-year-old orphan who has been turned over to Brinton Garrett and his wife Mary to be their ward. Although Brinnie, as she calls him, is getting on in years, he finds himself feeling somewhat enlivened through spending time with the youthful and exuberant Vesper, and it’s a good thing, too – she keeps dragging him into the most hair-raising adventures. In “The El Dorado Adventure,” Vesper has invited Brinnie and Mary to come live on her Philadelphia estate for the purposes of helping her sort … Continue reading
