Gwen Stefani Gives Birth

In a page right out of the crazy celebrity baby names book, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani and her rocker husband Gavin Rossdale are the proud parents of a new baby - Zuma Nesta Rock. Can you tell if it was a boy or girl by the name? Yeah, I couldn't either.

Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale is a bouncing baby boy, weighing in at 8 pounds 5 ounces according to Stefani's publicist Dave Tomberlin. He also said in the statement that "Mother, baby and family are all happy and healthy." "Family" includes big brother Kingston and step-sister Daisy Lowe (from Rossdale's previous relationship with fashion designer Pearl Lowe).

I am glad to hear that Zuma Nesta Rock is doing well, but will that last into his teen years? Will he be known at Zuma? Nesta? Rock? Okay, Rock isn't so bad, but it does conjures up Hudson in my mind and we all know how his sad story ended.

I know we've visited this topic before and people rag on Gwyneth Paltrow all the time for naming her daughter Apple, but honestly, that is starting to look quite normal! We know that Courtney Cox gave birth to Coco (which only makes me think of Chanel), that Tea Leoni gave birth to Kyd (how annoying is that going to be for him when he grows up?), and Katie Holmes gave birth to Suri (hey, it isn't as bad as Kyd!). But, in addition to actors naming their kids strange things, we have U2 band mates Bono and the Edge who named two of their tots Memphis Eve and Blue Angel respectively. For the record, both Memphis Eve and Blue Angel are girls. Before you start in on me, know that Bono's real name is Paul David Hewson and the Edge's driver's license reads David Howell Evans.

Why do celebrities give their children...ahem, different names? If you have enough money, does it not matter what you call your child? Does it give them some unique feeling that the Cindys and Davids of the world will never know? Or, are all these kids going to grow up like Zowie Bowie and change their names to something boring and dull like Duncan?

I heard Nesta was a tribute to Bob Marley. But I agree... very unique name. Honestly, where do they come up with these. Also, Gavin supposedly has a teen daughter from a prior relationship, I wonder what her name is?
