Grammy and Academy Award News

Two of my favorite award shows are coming up soon – the Grammys and the Academy Awards. There is a bit of new on the Grammy front. Troubled songstress Amy Winehouse, who many critics have picked to win several Grammys this year, will not attend the ceremony. Well, it isn’t so much that she won’t attend the Grammys – she can’t! Her request for a visa to the U.S. was denied. She is nominated for six Grammys, but apparently, that pulled no weight at all with the American Embassy in London who chose to refuse her visa request. Maybe they … Continue reading

Despite having personal problems lately, Kanye West (whose mother just died) and Amy Winehouse (whose been plagued with a number of problems) were nominated for a total of 14 Grammys between them. Kanye received eight nominations including Album of the Year and Rap Album of the Year for Graduation. Kanye will be going against the likes of Common (for Finding Forever), Jay-Z (for Kingdom Come), T.I. (for T.I. vs T.I.P) and Nas (for Hip Hop is Dead) for Rap Album of the Year. When It’s Hard to See the Good

Have you ever been surprised by a child’s accomplishment? As parents this might sound inconceivable but I have a confession to make…I am guilty of this. Last week was the annual “Legacy Awards.” This is a special night in our church’s youth group, where teens are nominated for a variety of things. All the teens get dressed up. And those who are nominated get to take a ride in a limo and then come down the red carpet while the paparazzi (the parents) snap pictures. It is just like the Grammy’s, where someone comes up (youth sponsors) and opens an … Continue reading

Kanye West Apologies for VMA Outburst

Ah, what is a music ceremony without Kanye West acting up? It all started in 2004, when he lost the AMA Best New Artist award to Gretchen Wilson. He stormed out of the ceremony saying, “I left like I was definitely robbed…” Then at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards, he interrupted Justice and Simian’s acceptance speech, insisting his video should have won the award because it “cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it.” As for the 2007 awards, Kanye suggested that he was not chosen to do the opening performance for the show because “maybe my … Continue reading

Good News for Donald Trump and Jennifer Hudson

The good news for Donald Trump: He actually convinced Hollywood-types to appear on the next installment of “Celebrity Apprentice.” The bad news: “Celebrity” is a relative term and some of the individuals cast in the new season of Trump’s reality TV show will not be recognized by half the audience. Even more bad news: The pathetic state of the economy is forcing NBC to cut the cost of its primetime schedule, which means viewers will have to suffer through two hours per week of “Celebrity Apprentice.” So who are the “celebrities” The Donald talked into competing for their charities of … Continue reading

New Duets from Elvis and Country Stars

Isn’t technology amazing? Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, has been dead for almost 31 years, yet we will be able to enjoy a “new” Elvis album soon. Just as we saw Celine Dion “sing” with Elvis a couple of years ago on “American Idol,” we will now be able to purchase a Christmas duets album featuring Elvis and some country music stars, including a few who weren’t even born before he died. The album, titled “Elvis Presley Christmas Duets,” will be released on October 14th. In his career, Elvis only recorded 20 different Christmas songs, yet he … Continue reading

Beyonce Crossing the Line, Drew Foots a BIG Bill and Lindsay’s New Job at the Morgue

I suspect the TV ratings for this year’s Grammy Awards will surpass the numbers the Golden Globes got earlier this week. Not that they could get any worse… Despite the threat of picket lines by striking Hollywood writers, the Grammy Awards will air as scheduled on February 10th. But, unlike with the Golden Globe Awards, A-list celebs are saying they will appear for the music industry’s biggest night. Just yesterday Beyonce and the Foo Fighters announced that they will be performing at the annual music awards. Beyonce is nominated for record of the year and her rep says the “Bootylicious” … Continue reading
