10 Fall Fitness Tips

The color of the leaves show me that the fall season is alive and well. But so are we, and we should take full advantage of that. One fall fitness tip that I have is to take advantage of the weather. This is the perfect time of the year for walking or cycling. Park trails and hiking areas allow for not only physical activity but beautiful scenery. A second fall fitness tip is to look into signing up for a Zumba or aerobics class. Or try something adventurous like a dance class. A third fall fitness tip is to involve … Continue reading

Television Good News and Bad News

If you are a fan of “How I Met Your Mother,” you may be happy to hear that the show will have several guest stars this season. In March, look for Jennifer Lopez to play self-help author Anita Appleby, a self-help author who plans to change womanizing Barney into a relationship guy. Also appearing on the show will be Carrie Underwood as Tiffany, Ted’s love interest. If you are a fan of “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” you will be happy to hear that both shows have been picked up. CBS announced that there will be at least two more … Continue reading

Fall Weekend Travel Fun

Just because the temperatures are falling doesn’t mean you have to turn into a hermit. Couch potatoes, who like to bake in front of the television on chilly autumn days, don’t know what they are missing outside. The change in seasons has prompted a slew of exciting travel options, including: THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE If you love alternative music, then you’ll want to hit the road and head to New Orleans from October 30-November 1. That’s where you’ll find the Voodoo Experience music festival. For three days you can jam to the tunes of a diverse lineup that includes Eminem, Kiss, … Continue reading

Television Shows: Renewed, Cancelled, and in Limbo

Are you wondering if your favorite television show is going to be renewed? Most networks still have until late May to make a final announcement of their fall lineups, but here are some of the shows we know we will or won’t see again. Some of the ABC shows that have officially been renewed are “Brothers & Sisters,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Private Practice,” and “Ugly Betty.” There had been fear by fans that “Ugly Betty” would be cancelled after ratings dropped in season 3. NBC actually renewed “Friday Night Lights” for two more seasons, despite the fact that … Continue reading

Get Ready for the Fall Television Season

After a long wait (especially for some fans), the fall television season is finally upon us. Starting next week, the networks are going to be rolling out some fan favorites and some new, exciting shows. Last night, we saw a commercial for “Heroes” and it mentioned it was returning after a nine month wait. My husband commented how that was like waiting on a baby to get here. Monday night, there will be a two hour “Heroes” season premiere. One of my personal favorites, CBS’ “Two and a Half Men,” also starts its new season on Monday, September 22. Reality … Continue reading

Where You Can Chuck A Pumpkin Without Getting Arrested

Tis the season to chuck pumpkins. Unfamiliar with the sport? I was too until I saw an episode of Food Network’s All-American Festivals that spotlighted the wonders of pumpkins. For all you pumpkin-loving people who thought the orange fruit was only good for pies, breads, and to decorate your porch during the month of October—-think again. Each year thousands travel to various parts of the country to watch grown men (and in some cases women and small children) hurl the popular autumn fruit into the sky at speeds that exceed 300 mph using a 30,000-pound cannon. It’s called pumpkin chucking … Continue reading

Ready, Set, Watch!

Yesterday was the first official day of the 2007-08 TV season. This week is an especially critical time for networks as they unveil their newest contenders in the battle to win over as many viewers as possible. In a departure from years past this season’s new shows are straying from the reality genre and offering more of an escape from real life. Supernatural and science fiction genres featuring characters who use their “extraordinary” gifts to conquer the bad guys are getting the most buzz this season. In other words, several networks are hoping to share in the success of NBC’s … Continue reading

Holiday Stress: Managing the Spending This Holiday Season

We’ve talked about the problems that financial stress can have on a marriage and during the holiday season, arguments over money and how you are spending it on presents for the kids and more can seem inevitable. Making the right decisions on how to spend your money can be hard most of the year, but when it comes to Christmas shopping and looking for the right presents for your kids and more – it can a great deal more difficult. Getting Your Home Ready For Winter—Part 1: The Furnace

Happy Autumn! My greeting is a bit belated (the first “official” day of fall was Saturday), but this is the first full weekend of fall, so better late than never–welcome to fall. I mentioned that the first “official” day of the season was Saturday, but here in Wisconsin some may argue that autumn has been well under way for a while now. For the past few days the temperatures have been in the 50s and 60s and there have been multiple nights where the National Weather Service has issued freeze and frost advisories as temperatures plummeted in the 30s. Needless … Continue reading
