Baldwin Joins PETA Boycott Plea and Clooney Arrested

This week saw two high-profile activist actors in the news. Alec Baldwin decided to join PETA in the organization’s plea for Americans to boycott circuses, such as Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, which uses elephants in their acts. If you’ve read any of my previous PETA blogs, you know Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey have previously come under attack before for its alleged mistreatment of elephants. This dates all the way back to 2009 when PETA conducted undercover, multi-state investigations on animal handlers. The owners of the circus, Feld Entertainment, paid $270,000 last year for being in violation … Continue reading

George Clooney the Peacemaker

In 1997 George Clooney starred in a movie with Nicole Kidman called “The Peacemaker.” In the film Kidman plays a nuclear expert and Clooney a Special Forces Intelligence Officer. Both are called to investigate a train crash in Russia that includes a nuclear payload, only neither Clooney nor Kidman’s characters believe the crash was an “accident.” It was a sleeper of a movie, but its title is quite fitting to describe the role Clooney is now playing in the real life drama that involves two rival Hollywood actors unions. The handsome star is pleading with the warring factions to put … Continue reading

George Clooney—–Peace Keeper

He has been called many a name in his lifetime (most of the negative ones came courtesy of Fabio), but George Clooney says “peace keeper” is not one he is referred to very often. However, if the shoe fits… The handsome actor is back in the headlines again today after donating $5.6 million to help the United Nations peacekeeping force in war-torn Sudan buy a fleet of helicopters. How’s that for digging deep? Clooney, who was recently named a U.N. Messenger of Peace, has been one of the most outspoken celebrity advocates for the victims in the impoverished Darfur region. … Continue reading

Family Time

The presents have all been opened and exclaimed over, the paper gathered up and thrown into the recycling bin. Two days ago, here was Boxing Day. Not for us the Boxing Day sales which in Sydney started ridiculously early at 5 and 6am. No, we did as many Australians do in the Christmas holidays; we gathered the family together and went to the beach. For us, the beach is ten minutes away. Mick and I were first in even though the water felt a little cold initially, but was only the first minute or so, then it become beautifully refreshing. … Continue reading

Stars Celebrate Obama Win

Oprah Winfrey was front and center last night in Grant Park as her “boy” Barack Obama addressed a crowd of about 200,000 screaming supporters as the nation’s first African American President-elect. Winfrey has long claimed that she is Obama’s No. 1 fan, so it was no surprise that the TV talk show queen was on hand in Chicago to watch him make history. In fact, not only did Winfrey show up to the massive public rally in Grant Park she brought along her BFF Gayle King and Brad Pitt as well. “It feels like hope won,” Winfrey told news reporters. … Continue reading

Look Who’s Returning to the Big Screen

Yee-haw! George Clooney is heading to the Wild West. According to reports, the hunky actor has reportedly signed on to star in “The Lone Ranger.” Britain’s The Sun is reporting that the Oscar winner will join Johnny Depp in the big screen adaptation of the long-running 1950s TV show. A source close to the project says Clooney has wanted to share screen time with Depp for a while now and thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partners. Personally, I don’t see how Depp is going to find time to see his family with the insane schedule he is about to … Continue reading

The son of the late daredevil Evel Knievel successfully jumped over 24 delivery trucks Saturday night. And what made the event all the more poignant is that it took place at the site of one of Robbie’s father’s most famous stunts. The 46-year-old daredevil told onlookers that he would need to be going 95 miles per hour at take off in order to successfully execute the 200-foot jump, which began from a three-story tall ramp.
