The Best of George Carlin

Michele just wrote a blog of George Carlin’s life, but I feel that he was such a big part of pop culture for so long (5 decades!), that Families could stand two blogs. George and I had very little in common – he was a hippie type who liked to rag on the government and the president. I am a Republican yuppie who strongly supports most things our government does. However, somewhere in between, we found a common ground and more times than not, George had me laughing so hard, I cried. Like him or not, the world truly lost … Continue reading

George Carlin the famously laid-back bearded, ponytailed comedian whose use of foul language made him a hit with fans and a target for critics died of heart failure late today. He was 71. Another death this week in addition to former Senator Jesse Helms was Larry Harmon, better known as Bozo the Clown, the character that enchanted children for more than 50 years. Harmon died at his home Thursday due to congestive heart failure. The character of Bozo the Clown was originated by Pinto Colvig back in 1946; however, it was Harmon that made countless appearances as Bozo and eventually licensed the character (after having bought the rights to Bozo) to others. Bozo the Clown was seen on stations all over the country, played by other actors. All in all, Harmon trained over … Continue reading

Andy Rooney: Victim of Fraudulent Emails

Andy Rooney has always been one to clearly state his opinion and he is doing that once again – saying that he never made the racist commentary attributed to him that is circulating around the Internet in an email. Yet he is cautious, not wanting to give the originators of these emails any more attention than they have already received. Rooney told AP that he hated to think that people believed he wrote the things said in those emails. The email is filled anti-minority statements such as “I have the right not to be tolerant of others because they are … Continue reading
