Actors that Turned Down Iconic Roles – Part Three

Okay, I promise I will stop after this one! I just find it fascinating to think of certain actors in certain roles: John Cusack as John Bender in The Breakfast Club? No doubt that Judd Nelson was perfect in this role, but how would John Cusack have faired? It certainly didn’t hurt his career to miss this role. Judd Nelson on the other hand… Bruce Willis as Sam Wheat in Ghost? Yep, apparently this one was given to Bruce Willis to read first, but he thought playing a ghost would be bad for his career. Wait, didn’t he play a … Continue reading

The 2008 Golden Raspberry Awards

It is time for the Golden Raspberry Awards, more affectionately known as the Razzies. Well, at least affectionately by those not receiving one. While the Oscars honor the best films of the year, the Razzies “honor” the worst. Since 1981, the Razzies have razzed the best of the worst. The awards are given out the day before the Oscars, but typically the winners don’t show up for the ceremony. While some entertainers reluctantly accept their Razzie awards after the ceremony, a few have actually showed up to accept their awards in person. The first was director Paul Verhoeven who won … Continue reading

Celebrity Drops Outs

Being a celebrity is hard, especially if you are a child star. Many are so focused on their careers that they forgo something many of us take for granted – a high school education. And while many of them will make more as high school drop outs that most of us with diplomas, there is a certain pride in finishing school. Christian Slater was one of those that realized that. The new star of NBC’s “My Own Worst Enemy” told Parade Magazine that he had to “swallow his pride” and go back to school with students much younger than himself … Continue reading

Celebrities with Babies on the Brain

Like many non-celebrity parents actor Mark Wahlberg and his girlfriend embrace parenthood and at times wonder what life would be like with a few more kids. At least they do on the days that the two children they already have are being good. Well, it appears the handsome actor and his partner won’t have to spend too much time contemplating what life will be like being outnumbered by kids because they will soon be living it. Wahlberg just announced that he and his longtime girlfriend Rhea Durham are expecting their third child together. The couple already has a 4-year-old daughter, … Continue reading

The Story of Tim “Ripper” Owens

Yesterday, I blogged about Tommy DeCarlo, a guy from North Carolina whose rock ‘n’ roll dreams came true due to his daughter posting a video of him singing on MySpace. He is now the new lead singer of the band Boston. But, he is not the first uber-fan to fill the lead singer shoes of his favorite band. Back in the Nineties, Tim “Ripper” Owens was the lead singer of a band called British Steel. British Steel was a tribute band (that is they played primarily another band’s songs) for heavy metal pioneers Judas Priest. In fact, the band took … Continue reading

This Week in History – 1998

Ah, 1998 – it seems just like yesterday, doesn’t it? Well, it was a decade ago – how time flies! Let’s see what was happening in the week of April 28th, 1998. In television news, Jerry Springer is forced to clean up his show. There had been controversy as to whether the shows guests were really brawling or just faking it for the small screen. The Chicago City Council said if the fighting was real, the guests should be arrested. At that point, Jerry pulled the plug on fighting. Maybe he realized people were just looking for entertainment that is … Continue reading

Bai Ling Arrested

Wow, when I saw the headline “Crow actress arrested on shoplifting suspicion” I never imagined it was Bai Ling. I remember Bai Ling for mainly two things: Her terrible singing on the bad reality show “But, Can They Sing?” which featured celebrities singing and for her odd clothing choices. If you have ever seen a picture of her in a magazine, you probably won’t forget it. Her outfits are eccentric to say the least! But, apparently Bai has done much more. According to IMDb, she appeared in The Crow, Anna and the King, and even on the television shows “Lost” … Continue reading

Hollywood’s Crazy Casting

He’s in. He’s out. Less than 24 hours before shooting was scheduled to begin on the new movie “The Lovely Bones” actor Ryan Gosling took a hike. According to Variety, Gosling spent weeks preparing for the lead role of Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a young girl, in the adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel. The actor reportedly gained 20 pounds and even grew a beard for the part, but cut out right before filming was set to begin because of “creative differences.” Enter Mark Wahlberg. Variety says the hunky actor agreed to replace Gosling in a pinch. Wahlberg … Continue reading

Just Who is Ricky Jay?

Michele just mentioned all the stars that attended Steve Martin’s impromptu wedding… Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner and Ricky Jay. You may be thinking “Ricky who?” I know of Ricky Jay only because he has been featured in several of my favorite movies (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Heist), but Ricky is far more than just a character actor. He is sort of a throw back to the vaudevillians of yesterday. He is a magician/illusionist, a sleight of hand expert and can do the most incredible things with a deck of cards. Ricky is actually listed in the Guinness … Continue reading
