Another year is coming to an end and of course, we’ve lost some iconic names in pop culture. Golden Girl Estelle Getty Dies

The cast of “Golden Girls” has lost their feisty Sophia. Actress Estelle Getty, who didn’t begin her television/movie career until she was 55, has died three days before her 85th birthday of natural causes. Estelle has been battling Lewy body dementia. Estelle was actually a stage star for many years before taking on television and movies. She even served as a stand-up comic in the 40’s at the Catskills resorts for a short time. Bozo the Clown Dead at 83

Another death this week in addition to former Senator Jesse Helms was Larry Harmon, better known as Bozo the Clown, the character that enchanted children for more than 50 years. Harmon died at his home Thursday due to congestive heart failure. The character of Bozo the Clown was originated by Pinto Colvig back in 1946; however, it was Harmon that made countless appearances as Bozo and eventually licensed the character (after having bought the rights to Bozo) to others. Former North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms Dead at 86

Conservative politician Jesse Helms has died at the age of 86. The cause of death was not announced, but he had been in poor health in recent years. Upon hearing of his death, President Bush said of Helms, “Sen. Helms has been a tireless defender of our nation’s freedom and a champion of democracy abroad.” Helms was a North Carolina Republican who was considered by many to be a conservative icon.
