Your Hair Knows Where You’ve Been

It sounds like something from CSI or Law and Order: using a person’s hair to figure out where they’ve been. Researchers from the University of Utah have been analyzing water molecules from human hair samples — and using the information to determine where the person lived. The process isn’t always accurate, but it’s pretty close. Analyzing the makeup of water molecules determines the right region of origin around eighty-five percent of the time. This project was inspired by the 2001 anthrax attacks. Researchers wondered if microbes (like anthrax) might record the water environment that they came from. After that idea, … Continue reading

Celebrities Going Back To School

It’s no rumor… Singer Shakira is resting her hips for a while and letting her brain get a workout at the University of California Los Angeles. Shocking, right? UCLA has had its share of celebrity students in the past, but none, I’m sure, that can shake it quite like the Colombian star. According to her reps, Shakira is attending classes at the California college and studying the history of western civilization. The singer says one of the reasons she signed up for the class is so she could “learn from the best.” The prestigious professor Robert Cleve, who has his … Continue reading

WWE Superstar Chris Benoit: 1967 – 2007

I think I have mentioned it here before, but I have a secret…I am a closet wrestling fan. Yes, I know it is not real, but neither are television shows or movies and I love those just the same. I grew up watching wrestling. Seriously, I was a teen when Jerry “The King” Lawler, now an announcer for the WWE, was in his wrestling heyday. My husband started watching wrestling later in life than I did. He was in his thirties when he was conned into watching it by his then-roommate. But, shortly thereafter, he was hooked too. We didn’t … Continue reading

Madonna The Fashion Designer

First it was Justin Timberlake… now it’s Madonna. The Material Girl has reinvented herself yet again. This time it’s all about fashion. Not so much for herself, but for her adoring fans. Late last year the singer turned actress turned advocate signed on with Swedish fashion retailer H&M to launch a collection of “hip, glamorous and timeless” pieces. Her second and last collection recently hit stores and the items are a hit. At least that’s what the executives at H&M are maintaining. I finally caved in and decided to take a look at the collection myself. The Madonna line consists … Continue reading

Trump Stirs Up More Controversy

With Rosie O’Donnell recently announcing her departure from ABC’s “The View” you had to know that her rival Donald Trump would not remain silent for long. (I think it took him about 2.16 seconds to issue a statement after the news of her leaving was broadcast.) I’ll get to their ongoing battle in a bit, but first I wanted to clear up rumors about Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent appearance on Trump’s TV show “The Apprentice: Los Angeles.” For some reason I allow myself to get sucked into “The Apprentice,” season after season (this year was no different). On the March … Continue reading

“The Donald” Keeps His Hair

When I wrote about Donald Trump’s wrestling bet a few weeks back I made a bet with myself that the entire “Battle of the Billionaires” showdown was a big April Fools Day joke. Well, it turns out I may have been partially right. For those of you who don’t keep tabs on The Donald’s bets (or his hair… or loss of it), Trump was involved in what World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon dubbed a “hairy smackdown.” Essentially, the Trumpster and McMahon had WWE wrestlers duke it out in the ring on their behalf last night (April 1, 2007). Pro … Continue reading
