Fashion Potpourri: Celeb Designers, Saving the Environment and Eliminating Tooth Fuzz

CELEBRITY DESIGNERS Add Wilmer Valderrama’s name to the growing list of celeb designers. (Is there a celebrity out there who doesn’t have a fashion line these days?) The handsome actor recently launched a casual menswear line called Calavena. Valderrama says his clothing collection is made for “stylish guys looking to find trendy, fashionable pieces.” (Take note all you “un-stylish guys.”) Calavena features a premium denim line, embroidered hoodies, super-soft thermals and an entire collection of distressed tees. The actor says he wanted to design clothes for men that featured “sophisticated yet comfortable cuts.” And ladies don’t fret–Valderrama says he hasn’t … Continue reading

Fall Fashion: Ways To Look Slim Without Exercising

“Too wild.” “Too expensive.” “Too revealing.” Those are the phrases I typically utter as I page through fashion magazines. However, the other day I was standing in the checkout line at the supermarket and ran across a picture of what looked like the very same pair of jeans I had in my closet… more than a decade ago. Paper-bag waist pants. Do you remember them? They were all the rage when I was in high school. I owned about four pairs of those pants. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing laid out in the magazine. Could the cinch-waist jeans … Continue reading

Fashion Corner: Teacher-Loving Designer and Other Hot Trends

New York Fashion Week has unveiled a ton of eye-popping designs over the past few days, but one that is not getting nearly enough press (in my opinion) is an accessory we (ladies) typically don’t leave home without—our handbag. Enter Zac Posen. The fashion designer to the stars has recently teamed up with DHL to create a limited edition handbag. But, this is not your typical leather body, two-strap wonder. It is an ultra-glam, red and yellow tote. And, the profits from the bag don’t go to line Posen’s pockets. Rather, the designer is donating proceeds from the purse to … Continue reading

Fashion Week Reveals Picks For Spring 2008

I don’t even know where I stashed my fall coat, yet everywhere I look there are pictures of what we should all be sporting for spring 2008. Fashion Week is officially underway in New York’s Bryant Park. A time when high fashion designers are revealing their new collections while highfalutin celebrities look on. One of my favorite designers Carolina Herrera showed off her spring collection a couple of days ago. I got to see portions of it online. Herrera says her native South America was the inspiration for the designs that featured rich colors and feminine touches. One fashion editor … Continue reading

Fashion Designer Turned Stroller Designer

She’s used to designing hot outfits for Hollywood heavyweights, but now fashion designer Cynthia Rowley is aiming to please a younger set of fashionistas. The famed designer and mother of two is teaming up with the popular Graco baby company to create a limited number of strollers. Rowley has pimped your kid’s ride with a fashionable fruit design. Its official name is the Cynthia Rowley “Be Fruitful” design and it is available for $300. What do you think of that price tag? Perhaps, you’ll like it more when you find out that Rowley’s foray into the stroller design business is … Continue reading

The Best-Dressed Cops

And the winners are… Washington State Patrol troopers. And you thought fashion awards were reserved exclusively for the likes of Halle Berry and Julia Roberts. If you have ever been pulled over for speeding in “The Evergreen State” then you might not be surprised to learn that the state patrol there has just been named America’s “Best-Dressed State Law Enforcement Agency” by the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors. Members of the state patrol don crisp black bow ties and blue “Smokey Bear” hats at the start of each shift. And according to the national trade group, the outfits … Continue reading

Baseball Loving Actress Gets Dream Job and A Warning About Explosive Aftershave

BASEBALL LOVING ACTRESS GETS DREAM JOB I always pegged Alyssa Milano as a girly girl. I know; she played a tomboy on ABC’s hit show “Who’s the Boss?” But, that was on screen. The rest of the time I’ve seen her decked out in glamorous gowns with flawless make up and beautiful shoes. And that’s not just at Hollywood events. I’ve seen numerous paparazzi shots of Milano cruising around L.A. with nary a hair out of place. Now, word comes that the actress has landed what she considers her “dream job,” and it’s not working as the muse of top … Continue reading

Nicky Hilton Says Hello Valentino Says Goodbye

And you thought she just partied all the time. Apparently, Paris Hilton’s shadow, I mean, sister, Nicky actually has a day job—fashion designer. Sure, she gets press for her handbag line (it’s very successful in Japan), but her big debut at New York Fashion Week was the 23-year-old’s first taste of what it really takes to be considered a contender in the fashion world. Ironically, most of the people in the audience for the unveiling of Hilton’s new line were celebrities with their own fashion collections, including Russell Simmons. The creator of the popular Phat Farm brand (which he recently … Continue reading

Look Who’s Designing Now

I guess she needed some way to pass the time now that her days cavorting with Jude Law are over… Yes, it seems actress Sienna Miller has another day job—-fashion designer. Miller (along with her sister Savannah) has created a clothing line, which is being sold at upscale Bergdorf Goodman. Twenty8Twelve by s. miller is not just for waif-like body types, according to the willowy star. Miller says the collection caters to a variety of body types. She says the line is made up of “fashionable clothes for all different sorts of confident women.” Count her sister Savannah among the … Continue reading

Why Celebrity Parents Are Going Gaga Over Munchkin

Most parents of babies and toddlers are familiar with the Munchkin brand. The company offers affordable products for the adorable droolers in your life; but what surprised me recently is the number of celebrity parents who have come out to endorse Munchkin products. Perhaps, I’m just jaded. After all, these are the same crop of celebs who don’t bat an eyelash at dropping $300 on a single pair of cotton PJs—for a newborn. Maybe, that’s why they are looking to spend less in other areas. Take for example, Munchkin’s new Jelly Bean slings and carriers. They were just unveiled at … Continue reading
